After suffering severe burns as a baby, Chiya grew up with fingers that remained curled, making everyday tasks like writing, drawing, and helping at home difficult. Despite the challenges and moments of bullying, she never lost hope for a better future.
That hope became reality when she received life-changing surgery, made possible through the support of compassionate care and generous donors.
Today, Chiya is doing well and can now stretch her fingers! She’s gaining confidence, becoming more independent, and is one step closer to achieving her dream of one day becoming a surgeon.

Thank You Team Surgicorps International
Goodbyes are never easy, especially after such a meaningful and impactful week. As we bid farewell to our incredible Surgicorps International team, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the lives touched, the hope restored, and the healing made possible during their time with us.

Throughout the week, a total of 74 surgical procedures were successfully carried out, each one representing a child given a renewed chance at a healthier, brighter future. We are deeply thankful for the dedication, compassion, and excellence the team brought to every moment.

It is always a joy to have them with us, and while we say goodbye for now, we look forward to welcoming them back again in September. We commit their journey into God’s hands, praying for safe travels and continued strength as they return home.

Thank you for being a part of something truly life-changing

It’s been an incredible 5 days hosting the Surgicorps International team at Beit CURE Children’s Hospital.

From life-changing surgeries to meaningful moments of learning and care, this week has been nothing short of impactful. We’re especially grateful to Dr. Argenta for taking time to equip caregivers with vital knowledge on burn care empowering families with practical steps that can make all the difference.

Our hearts are full. As we head into the final stretch, we remain committed to finishing strong and bringing hope, healing, and brighter futures to even more children.

When we think of surgery, we often focus on the surgeon’s hands, but there’s a quiet, life-saving presence in the operating room that makes the process smooth and seamless: anaesthesia.
For children undergoing surgery, anaesthesia plays a crucial role in ensuring they don’t feel pain, anxiety, or discomfort during procedures. It allows surgeons to perform delicate, life-changing operations while the child is safely and comfortably asleep.
But pediatric anaesthesia is not just about putting a child to sleep. It is a specialised field that takes years of study, experience, and careful monitoring. Our skilled anaesthetists work closely with surgeons and nurses to keep each child safe, stable, and pain-free before, during, and after surgery.
At CURE Zambia, we’re grateful to God for our incredible anaesthesia team, because behind every successful surgery is a child who didn’t have to feel a thing.

“My legs hurt a lot,” said little Gertrude, a bubbly two-and-a-half-year-old who loves to play and explore. But around her first birthday, her legs began to bend outward, making it painful to run, jump, and play like other children.

Her mother, Ruth, shared, “It breaks my heart to see her struggle… I can see the pain in her face when she grabs onto things for balance.” Raising six children alone, Ruth was determined to find help for Gertrude before she started school.

Ruth discovered CURE Children’s Hospital on Facebook and knew it could be a turning point for her daughter. With hope in her heart, she brought Gertrude for surgery, inspired by stories of children finding healing and joy.

Thanks to the support of kind-hearted donors, Gertrude received the life-changing surgery she needed. Today, her legs are straight, and she no longer feels pain.

Gertrude can now run, jump, and play with her peers freely, enjoying childhood to the fullest as she has now started going to school.

At CURE, care begins long before surgery.

From the moment our patients walk through our gates, we are intentional about building relationships that bring comfort and trust. We know surgery can feel overwhelming, so we take time to connect, to listen, and to gently reassure each patient and their family every step of the way.

These intentional relationships are not just part of what we do; they are at the heart of who we are. By the time our patients enter the theatre, fear has been replaced with calm, and uncertainty with trust. They are no longer alone; they are supported and surrounded by people who truly care.

Because healing doesn’t start in the operating room, it starts with compassion.

Meet 5-year-old Trisha, born without a foot on her right leg. Trisha faced growing pain that slowly took away her ability to run and play, something she loved so much. Despite the challenges, she remained a brave and joyful little girl.

With her mother’s love and support, Trisha finally found help and hope at CURE, where she received the care she needed and began a new journey toward healing.

Today, Trisha is doing well and learning to walk with her new prosthetic leg! She’s gaining confidence every day, and soon she’ll be back to running, playing, and enjoying life just like any other child.

Our Story

In 2004, CURE signed an agreement with the Zambian Ministry of Health to operate a pediatric teaching hospital specializing in the treatment and care of children living with physical disabilities. The Beit Trust, a UK-based charity, provided $1.5 million to support construction of the hospital as a centennial gift to the people of Zambia. The Zambian government donated a 60-acre plot of land for the hospital site. CURE Zambia opened in 2006.

CURE Zambia is one of the few hospitals in Zambia able to adequately address the surgical needs of children with disabilities in the country. The hospital campus is comprised of six buildings, housing 45 patient beds in the children’s ward and 16 beds in the private patients ward. The hospital also houses a chapel and spiritual center, three operating theaters, an outpatient clinic, an administrative building and a general services building. Services at the hospital are focused on pediatric orthopedics and reconstructive plastic surgery.

Through the work done at our hospital and at various mobile clinics, CURE Zambia is addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those who need help most.
