Meet Washington, a young man whose journey has been marked by courage and hope. Born with an underdeveloped leg, he relied on crutches for years, unable to walk or help around the house. After a long search for help and waiting through countless appointments, Washington finally found new hope through the Prosthetic & Orthotic Workshop at CURE Zambia.
Thanks to the incredible support from our friend partners and sponsors, Washington received a custom-made prosthetic leg, and today, he's walking independently and pursuing his first year of college education!

Here are some beautiful pictures from our week to brighten up your day.
1- Baby Limpo just had cleft lip surgery, and his mother could not hold back her excitement as she saw him.

2- At CURE, healing brings children together. From left to right, Frank and Newton became best friends while recovering from arm surgery, a friendship born right in the heart of their healing journey.

3- Dora came in for her follow-up visit and is so excited about the progress she has made in her healing journey. We are happy she feels great.
Have a restful weekend.

“I don’t think anyone outside my home will love me because of my appearance,” 14 year old Wankunda once said softly. Born with a cleft lip, he’s faced more challenges than most his age, from struggling to eat as a baby to being teased at school. After losing both parents at just 10 years old, life became even harder. But thank God he was cared for by his loving uncle and cousin Susan, who never gave up on him.

But hope found him through a caring teacher who connected his family to a CURE Zambia mobile clinic. Thanks to Smile Train and the kindness of donors, Wankunda received funded cleft surgery that changed everything.
Today, his smile shines brighter than ever, he’s confident, healthy, and full of hope for the future.

Going to the theatre for surgery can be scary for a child, with unfamiliar faces, big machines, and a world of uncertainty. That’s why at Beit CURE Children's Hospital, we are intentional about taking extra time to create a calm, caring, and child-friendly environment before every surgical procedure.
From explaining things in a way they understand, to offering hugs, smiles, prayers, and even their favourite toys, every small step helps them feel braver.
When a child feels safe, supported, and loved… healing starts even before the surgery begins.

Meet Loveness , a true fighter with a beautiful smile and an even bigger heart!
When Loveness was born, the medical team hid her from her mother, Gloria.
“It was the first time a child was born like this in our community,” Gloria recalls. Loveness was born with clubfoot and missing part of her right leg, conditions that brought fear, stigma, and heartbreak.
But love and faith carried Gloria and her daughter through. After years of struggle, CURE Zambia, with support from generous donors, provided Loveness with life-changing surgery and later a custom prosthetic leg.
Today, 11-year-old Loveness walks proudly, goes to school without crutches, helps her mom at home, and dreams of becoming a pastor. “God is powerful, don’t be afraid. He sees your pain.” Loveness said with a smile.
Thank you to everyone who makes stories like Loveness’s possible through your prayers and support.

Precision is paramount in plastic reconstructive surgery and performing skin graft surgery on a patient with a burn contracture is no exception. Plastic surgeons undergo extensive training and develop exceptional hand-eye coordination to achieve the necessary level of precision.
A skin graft procedure involves transferring healthy skin from one area of the body to replace damaged or scarred skin.
This precision not only enhances the functionality and aesthetic results but also reduces the risk of complications. It's a testament to the skill and expertise of plastic surgeons in restoring the lives and confidence of patients with burn contractures.

When little Lushomo was born with a cleft lip, his parents, Memory and Aphet, were heartbroken and confused. “We thought our child was cursed,” Memory said. In their village, no one had ever seen a condition like his, only fear and stigma surrounded it.
But hope came when Memory learned about CURE Children’s Hospital of Zambia, in partnership with Smile Train. After months of uncertainty, Lushomo finally received life-changing cleft surgery and today, he has a beautiful, bright new smile!
His parents are overjoyed and grateful for the care, compassion, and love they found at CURE Zambia.
We are grateful to God for being apart of his transformation.

Our Story

In 2004, CURE signed an agreement with the Zambian Ministry of Health to operate a pediatric teaching hospital specializing in the treatment and care of children living with physical disabilities. The Beit Trust, a UK-based charity, provided $1.5 million to support construction of the hospital as a centennial gift to the people of Zambia. The Zambian government donated a 60-acre plot of land for the hospital site. CURE Zambia opened in 2006.

CURE Zambia is one of the few hospitals in Zambia able to adequately address the surgical needs of children with disabilities in the country. The hospital campus is comprised of six buildings, housing 45 patient beds in the children’s ward and 16 beds in the private patients ward. The hospital also houses a chapel and spiritual center, three operating theaters, an outpatient clinic, an administrative building and a general services building. Services at the hospital are focused on pediatric orthopedics and reconstructive plastic surgery.

Through the work done at our hospital and at various mobile clinics, CURE Zambia is addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those who need help most.
