Lets review Whats mental health problems? It is anything that affects ones thinking abilities, Judgement, intellect, Memory, Proper communication, good lnterpersonal relationship & general productivity to life as well as positive contribution to the society. These factors ranges from conception upto oldage. And these they include: (1) Maternal nutrition and well being- if the pregnant woman's nutrition is poor or if she remains in poor health or surfers a serious illness rather, she is more likely to deliver a premature baby, low birth weight and are characterised by poor brain delopment, coordination dificulties, learning disabilities, poor memory and productivity as in mental returdation. this is the same with lnfants and young children severe malnutrion and infection. (2) Infections and brain damage- if a person surfers from a serious untreated infections like syphillis or other STls and HlV/AlDs or Malaria, these will in the end damage the brain cells which inturn leads to the above mentioned mental health problems. other factors that might cause damage to the brain may include: Uncontolled Bp which can lead to stroke, Uncontrolled Diabetes, use of harmful drugs(substance abuse) such as co***ne, heroine, blue marsh, Chamba & excessive alcohol drinking. Even direct injuries to the brain like involvement in road trafic accidents and etc. (3) Psychological- these lncludes: loss of the loved one, tragic events such as r**e, war, sudden loss of property, employement or marriage and personal attachement and interpersonal relationship (4) Poverty this my lead to multiple of other fueling factors oulined above - it my lead to malnutrition, prostitution which my inturn increase the risk to STls and other psychological problems. (5) Genetic - Some mental illnesses occur as a result of genetic malfaction or following mutation like Schizophrenia commonly known bin feeders disease. These usually run in famillies. Looking at all these factors leading to mental health problems, no person can fully survive the risk of being mentally ill and also rembering that "if you are not sick then you are affected." So how do you view the mentally ill? How can each of us help in prevention of mental illnesses, management and helping the mentally ill. How can all of us ldentify that this person is mentally?
