Mental abuse involves a range of behaviors aimed at undermining an individual's self-esteem, confidence, and sense of self-worth. It can take various forms, including constant criticism, humiliation, belittlement, insults, manipulation, intimidation, and isolation. In the context of college, mental abuse can occur in different settings, such as within romantic relationships, friendships, or even within the family.

The effects of mental abuse on college students can be far-reaching and detrimental. Here are some ways in which it can impact them:

1. Decline in self-esteem and self-confidence: Constant criticism and belittlement can erode a student's self-esteem, causing them to doubt their abilities, strengths, and worth. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy and a lack of confidence, making it challenging for them to perform well academically and socially.

2. Anxiety and depression: Mental abuse can contribute to the development or exacerbation of anxiety and depression in college students. The constant stress, fear, and emotional turmoil caused by abusive behaviors can take a toll on their mental health, leading to increased levels of anxiety and a higher risk of depressive symptoms.
