Hi! Several things have happened behind the scenes in the last few months.
Most importantly:

โ€ข Celebrating 3 years of living and working in Zim ๐Ÿฅณ
Reflecting on the people I have had the privilege of welcoming regularly into my space, partnering in their health and movement journeys, has me excited for more years in the company of some special individuals, new and โ€˜oldโ€™. You know who you are!

โ€ข I have battled with an injury that requires me to be patient with my current limitations while my body recovers, though frustrating. At the same time, I get to experience movement differently, which is refreshing in itself.

โ€ข It has been a joy welcoming more people into my Pilates community. There are always conversations and moments I wish I captured along the way, but nothing can replicate the way these moments play out in-person.
So to my community, thank you for the brief chats just before/after a session, seeking further understanding of what we do in class and why, checking whether I am still keeping count when I go off on a tangent about an exercise (all part of the plan to distract you ๐Ÿ˜œ), your positive energy, genuine care and support.
I appreciate you all.

Itโ€™s Movember and this oneโ€™s especially dedicated to the men in our lives ๐Ÿ’™

Participating in activities that build resilience and keep you healthy is the way to go. Itโ€™s never too early, too late or not โ€œmanlyโ€ enough to transform your life in a positive way.

Start small, implement 2 of these things that fit the easiest into your lifestyle for the remainder of this year and observe the effect it has on your mind and body.
Where in doubt, seek the guidance of an expert in that field to get you on the right path to taking good care of yourself.

Have you ever wondered what practicing gratitude truly does for you?

When we practice gratitude, a specific part of the brain called the pre-frontal cortex is activated. This area is involved in processes like regulating emotions, motivation, decision-making, expressing personality and moderating social behaviour, among many other cognitive functions.

Gratitude also allows us to increase the release of important โ€œfeel-goodโ€ neurochemicals - dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. These all contribute to feelings of closeness, connection and happiness that come with gratitude, and may help to regulate stress hormones.

Just like training the body, the more we train the brain with the practice of gratitude, the more easily we will express it. And quite likely, the effects of this positive practice will spread wider to the people who interact with you.

So go on and practice gratitude daily, starting now ๐Ÿ˜Š leave a comment below sharing one thing you are grateful for today!

Are you mindful or mind full?

Mindfulness is the practice of focusing your awareness on the present moment without judgement, and has been shown to enhance mental and physical health and wellness.

There are several types of mindfulness practices you can build into your daily routine that are minimal and can be as short as 2 minutes to practice if thatโ€™s all the time youโ€™ve got! Give some of these a try.

These ladies were on point during their duet today!

Working together with the reformer Wunda chair, foam roller and yoga block, the theme was balance ๐Ÿคนโ€โ™€๏ธ between mind and body, stability and mobility, left and right, front and back, focus and fun.

Duet sessions also offer a balance between the interaction of a group class and the personalized approach of private training.
Try out a duet with a friend or family member. This is a fantastic way to try out Pilates for the first time ๐Ÿ˜Š

Something I love about my work is the positive energy my clients bring into the space despite life circumstances:

Having a curiosity about their movement patterns and asking great questions.
Using witty humour to offload the intensity of challenging exercises, inwardly or outspokenly doubting my ability to count ๐Ÿคญ
Showing up with a commitment to moving with more ease and mental clarity than when they started, one breath at a time.

I have just returned from a short break and being welcomed by a wave of this positive energy was the best way to start the week, feeling very much fulfilled by what I do!

As August begins and some holiday time is upon us, I am reflecting on the people who have walked through my door this year and placed their trust in me, invested in improving their quality of movement and a greater physical capacity than before.

From where Iโ€™m standing, the process is paying off and I look forward to continuing on with these individuals after their well-earned break ๐ŸŒž
