In this session, the doctor explains Chitako (piles) from a traditional and cultural perspective. She teaches about traditional foods that help those suffering from piles and explains that not all Chitako is the same.
Some cases are physical and respond well to proper food and care, while others are understood differently in our culture. This is why, traditionally, healers were called Vanambuya — those called to the healing journey.
Back in the day, doctors, nurses, and midwives were all referred to as Vanambuya. It was never an insult, but a recognition of calling and responsibility. Today many people reject the term because its meaning has been lost.
