Hi There, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

My name is Sean Steyn.

I launched Alliance Health in 2009 with the help of my wife, Laura, and Neil Hunt from Alliance Insurance.

Although I am no longer directly involved with Alliance Health and act as an independent agent, I fully support them and their products because they fit many people’s needs, purpose and budget in Zimbabwe. Furthermore, they still provide an exceptional service.

But the story about how I got into Health Insurance (Medical Aid) started 9 years before that.

After losing my successful Commercial Farm Insurance Brokerage overnight due to Mugabe’s Farm Expropriations, I fell into a deep depression and we left Africa in 2000 for the UK with 6 suitcases and a 2 year old daughter. The depression got worse in the UK because I couldn’t find a decent job.

A year later, in 2001, we returned to Zimbabwe where we downsize our living to reduce costs so that I could take time off from everything and recover mentally.

Just before our finances ran out, I received a call from my Aunt who was looking to raise funds to pay for my cousins Cancer treatment. Sadly, he had passed away but the family were left with huge medical bills to pay.

It turned out that Zims biggest and best medical aid were not paying medical bills in full which was leaving people with huge shortfalls.

Being inquisitive, I decided to investigate the issue and found out that all the medical aids in Zim were facing the same problem of not charging enough to offer high benefit levels to cover medical bills adequately. This lack of high benefits translated into massive shortfalls at the time of treatment.

This in turn translated into a huge hungry market in Zimbabwe wanting decent medical cover.

Prior to investigating the above, a friend who was working for MK Airlines had told me how brilliant his medical cover was from the UK. So I contacted his broker in the UK and found out that UK International Private Medical Insurance products benefits were high enough so as to not leave people with shortfalls like Zim medical aids were doing.

I immediately joined the UK brokerage as an independent agent and started marketing International Private Medical Insurance in Zim.

This then led me to working as broker manager promoting and training agents all over Africa for AETNA’s Executive Healthcare Product.

It was at this time that I realized even the International Private Medical Insurance products were still not covering everyone’s needs. The international plans were far better than Zim Medical Aid cover but they were still not good enough. There were lots of gaps. People in Zim wanted better cover.

I then surveyed all the Zim agents and people on these international plans who told me what was missing and exactly what they wanted in a home-grown Medical Insurance product.

A few months later working from my dining room table in a small 2 bedroom flat in Avondale, I had the first draft of Multimed. About a year later I had the final product and approached Neil Hunt at Alliance Insurance company to help me launch Zimbabwe’s first Health Insurance company which was in 2009.

The rest is history as they say.

Zimbabwe: Save Up To 60% with a Hospital Plan!

With the ever-increasing premiums, have you considered a Hospital Plan to SAVE on premiums?

▶️What is a Hospital Plan?

A Hospital Plan is designed to cover your medical expenses when admitted to the hospital for both emergency and non-emergency (elective) treatment. Therefore, as soon as you are admitted as a day-patient or require an overnight stay, the expenses incurred will be covered.

Bills are paid directly to the hospital, treating doctors, and specialists. You are not required to pay anything upfront.

NB: This is NOT a cash plan where you are paid a fixed amount per day when hospitalised. These products pay up to USD$1,000,000 for in-hospital medical treatment for emergencies and non-emergencies!

▶️Why consider only a Hospital Plan?

Hospital bills are typically the most expensive and can result in significant financial strain, whereas day-to-day outpatient bills may be more manageable for most or negligible if in relatively good health.

In other words, why pay up to 60% more for benefits you hardly ever use or don’t use?

▶️Who is a Hospital Plan best suited for?

For individuals who are in good health and do not have chronic medical conditions or frequent visits to the doctor, choosing a Hospital Plan that exclusively caters to inpatient expenses while cutting out unnecessary outpatient benefits may be financially advantageous due to significantly lower premiums.

▶️How much premium can you potentially save?

Selecting a Hospital Plan rather than a Comprehensive Plan that covers both inpatient and outpatient expenses could lead to potential savings of up to 60% on your monthly premiums.

Using me as an example, my personal monthly savings are $240, which equates to $2,880 annually or $57,600 over a 20-year coverage period, disregarding yearly increases due to "Medical Inflation." At age 54, I can confidently state that I have never spent $2,880 a year for day-to-day outpatient medical treatment.

▶️What does a Hospital Plan NOT cover?

USD Comprehensive Hospital Plans will generally pay for the following:

✅Emergency and Non-emergency (elective) Hospitalisations and related services.
✅Cancer treatment.
✅Treatment in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
✅Emergency Medical Care in A & E Departments that results in being Hospitalised.
✅Local and Cross Border Air & Road Ambulance Services.
✅Family member accompaniment when Hospitalised in SA.
✅In-hospital Consultations with Specialists and Diagnostic Tests.
✅Follow-ups after being discharged.

▶️What does a Hospital NOT cover?

Hospital Plans do not cover the following day-to-day out-patient benefits:

❌Dental and Vision care.
❌GP visits and Prescription Meds.
❌Medical Check-ups.
❌Physio and Chiropractor treatment.
❌Pregnancy and Childbirth. (Unless it's a medical emergency.)

▶️On a Personal Note!

I regard a Hospital Plan as an insurance policy that safeguards me against exorbitant medical expenses that I am unable to afford and would prefer not to go into debt for. Knowing that my medical bills will be covered in the event of hospitalisation, I can rest assured that I will be financially secure in the event of being hospitalised while being treated in the best hospitals by the most competent professionals.

Isn’t that why we buy medical cover?
