Ending Gender-Based Violence is not a private issue, it is a shared duty. Change happens when individuals speak up, communities act and institutions take responsibility. The work belongs to all of us.

Voices were heard in Kuwadzana 1 where Musasa conducted a Community Dialogue. At the Community Hall, residents spoke openly about the reality of GBV , its causes, its impact and the solutions they believe can restore safety. Drug and substance abuse were identified as major drivers, alongside concerns about accountability when perpetrators hold influence.

The community called for real change: recreational facilities for youths, skills training in carpentry and joinery, peanut butter production and ISALS to create income and reduce crime.

When communities diagnose the problem and demand solutions, that’s where transformation begins.

The dialogue was supported by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Dev., the City of Harare, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and the Zimbabwe Republic Police - ZRP’s Victim Friendly Unit

Gaslighting doesn’t start with shouting. It starts with small denials, subtle blame, and constant manipulation, until you begin questioning your own memory, your feelings and even your sanity. That erosion of confidence is emotional abuse, and it cuts deep.Has this ever happened to you? Share with us in the comments

Abuse does not only leave bruises, it changes how the brain processes fear, risk and survival. Prolonged, chronic abuse causes fear-based trauma that alters brain chemistry and cognitive function, making it harder to escape, and trap someone in cycles of control. That is why survivors need support, not blame.

If you or someone you know is experiencing Gender-Based Violence, do not stay silent. Reach out to Musasa today. Help is available 24/7.

Musasa, supported by Porticus, together with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the City of Harare, strengthened Safe Spaces for women and girls in Kambuzuma.

Through Internal Savings and Lending Schemes (ISALS), commonly known as mukando, women pooled resources and used their proceeds to purchase groceries for their households.

Financial autonomy builds confidence, reduces dependence and shifts power dynamics at home. When women control resources, communities move closer to ending gender-based violence.

Silence has never protected a single woman or girl. It only protects abuse. Call it out. Refuse to normalise it. Be the reason violence stops.

When “personality” becomes power over someone else, it stops being strength and starts becoming harm. Real confidence shares space. Let’s normalise respect, not dominance.
