MERCY SHOWERS – Background Information
Mercy Showers is a Christian Counseling Organization founded in 2009 by Mr. Faustin Svuure is an educationist-cum Christian Counselor. He is a holder of a Bachelor of Education degree in Educational Administration, Planning and Policy Studies. He worked at many educational institutions and non-governmental organizations in Zimbabwe. A deacon with the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe, the founder of Mercy Showers has a unique story to tell as to how he became so obsessed with the idea of birthing this wonderful organization. Below is his story!
“In the year 2000, I joined Childline Zimbabwe as a Volunteer Counselor. Working on day and night shifts, I endured for eight good years, getting into the painful life experiences of my clients. I will never forget those nights, alone in the helpline room with two receivers on each side of my desk. At the end of the other telephone line, a 17 year old girl dials the helpline number. Lifting up the receiver, I could hear a hopeless death filled voice, “I’m about to kill myself, so have just thought hey, let me hear someone’s voice, so thanks and bye.”
“Hold on! The hour that followed was a real life saving battle. The girl had a determination to kill herself for real. As if it was not enough, the other receiver would ring and on picking it up, the screaming voice was loud enough to tell me something was terribly wrong.“Help! Help! Can someone help?” A thirteen year old girl had just been gang raped! The calls would continue till sunrise. Such was my daily counseling life, 365 days per year. In 2005, God laid a burden on my heart, a feeling of inadequacy in my voluntary work. I was busy trying to help the heart-broken, children in the streets, orphans and vulnerable children, all without involving their maker, God himself i.e, Christian Counseling. In 2009, Mercy Showers got registered as a legal Christian Counseling Organization under the name Christianview Counseling Centre which later changed to Mercy Showers
