Island Hospice & Healthcare Palliative care, bereavement counseling and training

For 43 years, Island Hospice and Healthcare (formerly Island Hospice Service Zimbabwe) has been improving the lives of those facing chronic or terminal illnesses. Island Hospice Service Zimbabwe was established in 1979 as the first Hospice in Africa and is a well-known centre of excellence in palliative care. The initial objectives were to provide direct home-based palliative care to those with a life threatening illness and their families and a comprehensive bereavement service. In 2014, Island Hospice Service Zimbabwe, changed its name to Island Hospice and Healthcare to better communicate the expansion of its services within its holistic approach to palliative care developed over the last three decades. The organization has managed to build a network of partners and services that reach vulnerable groups in society which include displaced peoples, orphans and other vulnerable children, young care-givers, widows and widowers, senior citizens and marginalized communities. Our services have expanded to include not only direct palliative care and bereavement counselling but also community health care initiatives, capacity building and training for healthcare professionals.

Island Hospice & Healthcare was at the Liquid Holdings Annual Men’s Fair yesterday, raising awareness on prostate cancer.
With more than 400 men in attendance, our team offered education and screening to support early detection, because early action saves lives!💙

If you missed it, you can still get screened; early detection makes all the difference.

Yesterday, we were honoured to have Marc Pozzo with us for the handover of USD $18,000.

A gift made possible by everyone who took part in the Island Hospice Golf Day at Borrowdale Brooke.

Moments like these remind us how powerful community can be.
Thank you to all the participants for standing with Island Hospice & Healthcare, ensuring we can continue our work of providing care and support to those who need it most. 💚🙏🏽

Prostate cancer often grows quietly, with no early symptoms and that’s why many men in Zimbabwe are diagnosed late. Regular screening can help detect changes early, when treatment options are far better.
