The International Youth Fellowship team from South Korea, led by Professor Jae Yun Shim, recently visited Marondera, bringing with them valuable insights on nation-building and community development. The team facilitated a two-day workshop, under the Mind Lecture series.
The workshop, attended by government and local authority dignitaries, aimed to cultivate innovation, challenge mindsets, and inspire patriotism and civic responsibility among councillors. Professor Shim's lectures emphasized the importance of teamwork and cooperation in building a nation, citing South Korea's remarkable transformation from a poor country to a developed nation in just three decades.
"The aim of all these programs ladies and gentlemen is to improve the livelihoods of the majority of Zimbabweans," said Local Government and Public Works youth desk coordinator Darlington Mupfupi, . "It is important that after gathering like this, we take what we would have learnt to our communities and develop our country."
The Saemaul project, or New Village Movement, was highlighted as a success story that resonates with Zimbabwe's Vision 2030, which aims to turn the country into an upper-middle-income society by 2030. Professor Shim drew parallels between South Korea's experience and Zimbabwe's potential, noting that even the most challenging situations can be turned into opportunities for growth.
