Digital Eye strain/ Computer vision syndrome

It refers to eye discomfort & vision problems caused by continuous use of digital devices like computers, smartphones Tv etc

Caused:
• prolonged exposure to the screen
• pre- existing eye conditions

Tips to avoid digital eye strains

• practice the 20-20-20 rule. For every 20 minutes on screen time, take a break to look at an object 6m / 20 ft away for 20 seconds
• adjust screen brightness or contrast to comfortable levels
• use of good lighting in the room when working
• Get comprehensive eye examination regularly to monitor your eye health!

*Glaucoma* is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. The optic nerve is the “cable” which transfers information from the eye to the brain for your eyes to work properly. If left untreated, Glaucoma can result in irreversible blindness.

-In most instances, glaucoma develops gradually so there may be no symptoms in the early stages ie. you do not feel it happen.

-Signs and symptoms differ with the type of glaucoma, but some may notice:
•coloured rings around light
•excessive tearing
•misty vision

Risk factors include:
•being of African descent
•short-sightedness
•family history of glaucoma
•Diabetes
