Super moon has me; and when I can’t sleep on a full moon I walk around taking pictures and enjoying the glow of silvers, greys and whites i🌕 would you believe I have an entire album of full moons? The Buck moon is in its full super moon glory and incase you didn’t know this means the wild blueberries are ready 🫐 .

Lady May loves the water, the woods and everything outdoors … just as much as I do! The kayaks to me are a super durable safe place for me to push my limits and be a beast but to her the kayaks are diving boards, stable jungle gyms, the safe place from annoyed beavers 🦫, and the most exciting words I can say to make her pretty ears perk up “want to go kayaking?” As she calms down the canoes will get more use but with puppy mode still a go we need less space for zoomies!

I didn’t mean to scare my new Blanding friend but I didn’t notice her until I was very close heading for the door! Threatened are the Blanding turtles here in Ontario so I am very happy to see this is the second Blanding turtle looking to nest here… such a long way from the big pond but these lady’s are picking a safe place to nest with many dedicated turtle lovers living there! 💚🐢

The strawberry 🍓 moon 🌕 had a haze of smoke around it that hasn’t lifted since. As much as the smell of Smokey campfire in the air normally triggers a sense of comfort and adventure for me it’s actually been a rather worrying feeling. I have never experienced smoke in the air for days. The strawberry moon normally begins my adventures to the wild strawberry patches I like to snack on but looks like I’ll be waiting for blueberries instead and sticking a little closer to home! I’ll keep hopeful of rain 🌧️

I love apple blossoms the smell is so intoxicating that if the black flies weren’t so thick I’d hangout and watch the bees work their magic to bring fall apples 🍎 The deer and I look forward to our favourite fall treats 🥰

Green in so many shades and textures make spring time so beautiful! I know that statistically people don’t all see colours the same and I have learned this more intensely as I ask I start to understand what those around me see. Especially when I ask how many colours you can see … my eyes see millions of shades of greens yellows and slight blues the last bit of the wet fall red yellow and oranges fading into browns to begin to blend with the natural browns blacks and greys of the wood that has fallen an is saturated into mushroom habitat! This is exactly why I can spend hours just looking around picking trash and shed/ bone hunting. Don’t even get me started on how many colours I see in the scales of a fish 🤭 I increased the contrast in these photos to bring them into a photographic representation closer to what I see through my eyes when I am in the woods admiring everything!

I normally am known for being able to put words together in a way that can express my emotions on a very vulnerable but I don’t know what to say comfortably. Sometimes being that vulnerable and open takes me time to be able to express those things on a public platform… When I find my words and I am ready I’ll bring them from my safe space my safe people my little world and into the open to find connection and be strong enough for criticism without anger just open eyes. Until then here’s what I can say comfortably. On May 5th I was doing exactly what I needed for MMIW. I paddled into Algonquin with a very understanding friend, Lady May and a red dress tucked safely in my bag. I spent the time away from what I call the modern world doing what I love to do. Wandering the woods in a forest creature way and paddling the waters that connect me to a different time and place.❤️ I talked openly about what MMIW means to me and the ways it has effected my world. I cleaned up trash that was left behind and found treasure in things much older than me. I was even gifted a paddle after losing my favourite kayak paddle I stumbled across a canoe paddle in the shoreline that I am more than happy to give a new home to! ❤️ I had the clouds open up and move along to expose a beautiful full Moon 🌕 An if you know me well you know the Moon and I have a connection that I wont ever have the right words to explain! I thought about wearing this red dress but never truly felt comfortable enough to actually put it on and I am glad I didn’t. When I hung it in a tree in the woods and walked around looking at this beautiful red dress hanging so empty. Missing was the word for how I felt looking at this emotional symbol. Such a simple thing means so much in the bigger picture… in the understanding of the ripple effects of a simple red dress. I needed to be in a space where I felt like me. I needed to disconnect to connect to something much deeper that soothes the dark parts of who I am. I can listen and for that gift I am enterally grateful. Miigwech 🙏

Earth Week Wednesday! When people say they are completely self reliant and sustainable I have to try not to giggle! It’s rude but my social filter for sugar coating things is not my strong point to say the least! Self reliant just doesn’t exist it never has … the saying it takes a village well it does! An to do it all on your own well even if you did pull it off nothing would ever be as great as having that sense of community where people excel at their individual passions and support each other! This beautiful zucchini in my hand in the first photo came from a zucchini I was gifted many years prior and all my zucchini’s for the future. I learned a lot from that gifted gardener and her zucchini and it’s become a great passion I enjoy growing and gifting food when my gardens overflow! I have my strong points and so do many others some just don’t know it yet! The helping learning and trading from each other is a beautiful sustainable system that truly isn’t self reliant instead it’s a sense of better together! To make friends with knowledgeable individuals who want to learn about something you do and you learn about something they do… well next thing you know you have all kinds of gifted friends an amazing corn farmer, a funny mushroom farmer who tests your foraging knowledge 😂, a bear hunting beekeeper, an so many more friends who grow hunt pickle preserve and let you watch over their homes when they go on vacations 🥰 an you eat like a queen! Hands on outdoors people are my favourite to learn from they all have knowledge to bring to the table from farming to fishing, hunting, trapping, camping to even the activists and scientists living out their lives outdoors to protect and study what we all love so passionately! We all always have something to offer and something to learn … don’t let egos yours or others convince you otherwise 💚

Getting sick of pulling plastic bags out of the lake or off the side of the trail? Me too! So much so that a few Earth days ago I switched to compostable bags to go along with my reusable… at first I thought the switch would cost me more but turns out it’s the more affordable option! My large garbage bin still gets a true plastic bag but every trash bag inside I use compostable! I bought the Costco compostable brand 2 years ago at least an it was $11.00 for 120 bags … I am still using the same box and far from running out! For those that think they aren’t actually composting well I put them to the test and in just over a year the bags were completely dissolved into my compost! With so many healthy affordable alternatives to plastic this year might be your year to switch too! An one day maybe plastic bags in the woods and water will be more rare than a beaver butt slap on the side of your boat 🛶 be careful picking up those plastic bags to clean up they are often filled with 💩 from people who shouldn’t be in the woods! Where this week we will talk about the benefits of being more eco friendly, saving you money in an already tight budget, affordable natural products for your health and the environments, adjusting well to a changing climate and the difference between being a eco lover and a eco freak! Some of you might think why are these topics important to me? The honest answer is it might not be but it’s something to think about if you are as passionate as I am about the outdoors than we need to care enough to change at home so our experiences outdoors don’t! An conversations like this backed with some changes can make sure we have beautiful healthy balanced ecosystems to enjoy! Happy international women’s day! I’d like to say that whatever gender you are or aren’t I think you should celebrate yourself everyday! Today though we celebrate how much change has happened in the last century. Little changes build the stepping stones towards massive change in all systems! I am grateful for the little changes that took so much controversy a century ago that made it possible for me today to •Go to school and continue learning through any form of educational pathways safely. • I am able to vote for whom ever I see fit. • I was able to grow up playing sports with the boys and it made me a much stronger competitor with a bad ass attitude about it! I love a challenge and gender doesn’t hold me back from giving it my all! • I get to make all my own physical health decisions about my body. • I have the right to have things you wouldn’t even think about like bank accounts, own property and be topless in public if I choose to without legal backlash! I owe that to amazing women before me who demanded they go to work to support their country at war! To the women that educated themselves despite barriers to prove we had the brains to vote! I owe it to the women who burned bras and protested for the next generation to come forward with more demands of equality! I am very proud to be in a safe country where great people of all genders have been slowly dismantling the structures of oppression! I hope to continue to make those women and allies proud and push for an even more inclusive, safe future of equality for all 💜

Just because the trash is in the swamp doesn’t mean I am not going to find a way to get it!!! No Pooh was found in the bucket nor did we use it as a toilet after we retrieved it! Instead we fillies it with more garbage on the way back to camp and disposed of it properly after our adventure was done! Personally if you can’t Pooh in the woods without a toilet you should stick to trailer park camping they have toilets for you! I am so sick of finding plastic bags of human 💩 in the woods! Still trying to figure out how to get sh*t bags out of the woods and I am almost ready to give up and burry them but all that plastic breaks my heart! Might just consider planting poison ivy in these campsites to ruin it for these people and enjoy the place to myself 😏 Also hunting is in full swing so if you are a crown land adventurer just know the people hunting are aloud to be there too and it is your job as a backwoods adventurer to stick to the trail, wear bright colours, and respect those feeding their families!
