I am a little late posting Riverview's Christmas photos! Santa came to visit and there was an awesome Christmas dinner as well. As we finish 2024, I want to give a a huge THANK YOU to the staff and all the families and caregivers who bring so much love, care, and support to our seniors every single day. You’re the heart and soul of our community, and we’re so lucky to have you by our side.

Your kindness and dedication mean the world, and together we have made Riverview a true home.

We had an awesome Halloween at Riverview!

Happy Canada Day!! We had an awesome party with our little community. Family and friends came to munch on burgers, hot dogs and yummy salads. There was croquet, axe throwing, ring tossing, and throwing rings at antlers (on my head!). It was a gorgeous day and we feel very blessed to have such an amazing group of people to celebrate with. One of our group, Anne, wrote an amazing poem called "Welcome Home" and I've included a photo.

We are looking for an extraordinary cook at Riverview Seniors’ Residence! Riverview is a small independent senior living community of amazing seniors, and we are looking for that special person that is enthusiastic about cooking a great meal and receiving the compliments when helping to serve it.
Our staff take pride in providing an awesome place to live for our 25 seniors and they are extremely dependable and respectful of each other. If you are a creative, caring, and thoughtful person and you believe that you can contribute to our community, please send us your resume.
Hours are 10am-6pm, 4-5 shifts weekly, every other weekend off.
Great opportunity to learn and grow with work life balance. If you lack the experience in a commercial setting, but you still think that with some training this could be a perfect fit, please contact us. Scratch kitchen cooking & baking.
There is the opportunity for 1-on-1 Chef training; the hours worked can be applied to red seal interprovincial certification requirements. This is not a requirement of the position, but is available for the right candidate.
We will require that you have or obtain your Food Handler Certification and a valid Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check.

The above is a note we received from a participant who took part in one of our Practical Caregiver Training sessions.

Caregiving roles range from provision of assistance for personal care, access to meals and food, transportation to appointments, shopping, and social events, financial management and support, medical care, home maintenance tasks, and activities of daily living.

Home Hospice North Lanark (HHNL) knows how hard it can be, and that caregiver burnout is a very real thing. As a response to the needs of unpaid caregivers in this area, HHNL is offering a Practical Caregiving Training course developed by Champlain Hospice Palliative Care.

Topics are covered in five modules:
Saturday, June 1
Module 1 Your Role as a Caregiver (Navigation, Advance Care Planning)
Module 2 Lifts and Transfers (Body mechanics, lifting techniques)
Saturday, June 8
Module 3 Providing Personal Care (All things hygiene, grief, dignity)
Module 4 End of Life Care (What to expect at the end of life)
Module 5 Communication and Self-Care

Please bring your own lunch and/or snack. Water will be available.

If you haven't heard of Parrot Partners Canada, it is an incredible organization that rescues and takes care of all kinds of amazing birds. Judith has visited Riverview twice with a few of the birds and everyone had such a blast. Parrot Partners Mission is to "Improve the quality of life for parrots in the wild and in our homes through humane and professional rehabilitation, training, and through educating the next generation of owners and social influencers."

I've talked before about how awesome our little community is. Our residents and our staff care about each other so much and there are all kinds of wonderful things that happen at Riverview every day. A resident cleaning the snow from a car for another resident may not be a huge deal, but it's a sweet gesture that captures what the Riverview family is all about.
