Kids from as young as 6 months and to age of 19 years old are covered by Alberta Health for their annual eye exams. About 6% of children aged 6–8 have myopia, and almost 29% of children aged 11–13 have it. It has progressed at an alarming rate among kids. But we have different tools to help slow down the progression before it starts to impair vision in our kids later years. We at Precision Eye Care have started a annual myopia management testing, partnering this with different kinds of myopia management such as glasses or Ortho-K contacts lens. This myopia program aims to help parents see the progression of their child's eyes throughout the year! Make sure to ask about how our myopia management program can help during your kids next annual exam!

A visual field test (also known as a perimetry test) is a common eye exam used to assess your peripheral vision—the ability to see objects and movement outside your central line of sight. It helps detect vision problems that might not be noticed right away, especially in the outer parts of your vision. This test is particularly important for diagnosing a variety of eye conditions and health problems, including:

Glaucoma: A condition that damages the optic nerve, often due to high eye pressure, and can lead to loss of peripheral vision.

Optic nerve damage: Caused by conditions like optic neuritis or multiple sclerosis.

Retinal diseases: Such as macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.

Brain-related vision issues: Certain neurological conditions can affect your vision, and a visual field test helps detect these problems.

Its important that you book regular eye exams so even if you feel as if your vision hasn't changed your eye health might be affected by other issues! So call and book your next eye exam today! And make your health a priority in the new year!

Winter brings frosty mornings and chilly nights! But it also brings dry skin and eyes. Here are some tips to help you find some relief from this dry season!
For dry Eyes 😢:
👁Use Lubricating Eye Drops: Over-the-counter artificial tears or lubricating eye drops can help relieve dryness and irritation in your eyes. Look for preservative-free drops if you plan to use them frequently.
😎Wear Sunglasses: If you’re outside in windy, cold conditions, sunglasses can help shield your eyes from the elements and reduce moisture loss.
😊Warm Compresses: Applying a warm compress to your closed eyelids for a few minutes can help loosen any debris or oils clogging the tear ducts, which may improve your eye moisture.
For Dry skin🐫:
👱‍♀️Moisturize Regularly: Use a thick, rich moisturizer with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or glycerin. Apply it right after you shower or wash your face to lock in moisture.
💆Layer Your Skin Care: In the winter, you may need to layer your skin care. Start with a hydrating serum or essence, followed by a thicker moisturizer to lock in hydration
💧Hydrate from Within: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Staying hydrated helps maintain your skin’s moisture balance.
All of theses are great steps to protect your skin & eyes this winter season! But if they are not doing the trick! Visit us for Dry eye assessments and see how our dry eye treatments can be not only beneficial to your eye care but also help your skin care as well! Call us or visit our website to learn more!

November is Diabetes awareness month! In 2024, an estimated 398,440 Albertans will have diabetes, which is 9% of the population. This includes type 1 and type 2. The leading cause of blindness in adults with diabetes is "Diabetic Retinopathy". This is caused when high levels of blood sugar damages the blood vessels in the retina. These damaged vessels can leak fluid or blood, leading to swelling, blurred vision and total vision loss. In order to track these symptoms or prevent them diabetics are suggested yearly exams! So make sure to schedule eye checks regularly. Yearly for kids under 19 and every 2 years for adults between the age of 19 and 65. And yearly for seniors over the age of 66. Little steps can help keep you and your eyes healthy for more tips schedule an eye check up with our amazing doctors today!

1.Wear Sunglasses 😎
Protect your eyes from harmful UV rays by wearing sunglasses with 100% UV protection, especially in bright, sunny conditions or on snowy days where glare is stronger.

2.Follow the 20-20-20 Rule 👀
For every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away to reduce eye strain.

3.Stay Hydrated 💧
Drinking plenty of water helps keep your eyes lubricated and reduces dryness or irritation.

4.Get Regular Eye Exams 🩺
Visit an eye care professional annually to check for early signs of any eye conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration.

5.Blink More Often 👁️
When you're staring at screens, we tend to blink less. Make a conscious effort to blink more to keep your eyes moist and reduce strain.

6.Use Proper Lighting 💡
When reading or working, make sure the lighting is soft and balanced to avoid unnecessary strain on your eyes.

7.Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes 🚫
Rubbing can irritate your eyes and introduce bacteria. If you feel itchy or tired, try using lubricating eye drops instead.

8.Eat Eye-Healthy Foods 🥦
Foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, can support eye health. Think leafy greens, carrots, fish, and citrus fruits!

9.Practice Good Screen Habits 📱
Keep screens at arm's length, use blue light filters, and adjust text size to reduce eye fatigue.

10.Remove Makeup at Night 💄
If you wear makeup, always remove it thoroughly before bed to prevent irritation or infection around your eyes.

Taking care of your eyes today will help ensure clear vision for years to come! 👁️💙
