Community Midwives of Halton

Community Midwives of Halton The Community Midwives of Halton are licensed, professional midwives for your prenatal, birth, and postpartum care.

An ancient profession that has evolved over centuries, midwifery literally means "with woman". Midwives draw from this extensive history, the knowledge gained from time, and have used it to help create a modern midwifery profession that provides benefits to women with a blend of both art and science. In Ontario, midwifery has been legislated since 1993, and has increasingly become an integral part

of modern maternal health care. Oakville is home to our well-established midwifery practice, called Community Midwives of Halton. Welcome your baby into the capable, supportive and experienced hands of one of our midwives. Whether in the tranquility of your own home or in the hospital, our caring midwives will help nurture your entire family through this profound life event. Midwives provide complete care for your pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum period. We care for both mother and baby until 6 weeks postpartum. Midwifery care is free for residents of Ontario. Midwives are regulated health care professionals who are registered by the College of Midwives of Ontario.

Breastfeeding Basics 🤰🏽
Hosted by the Community Midwives of Halton
You deserve the best possible start to breastfeeding! Join our class to learn all of Ashley’s secrets to help you achieve YOUR own feeding goals!
Feeding your baby is natural and normal, however it’s a skill like anything else and takes time to master. Your baby is wise, and will be born knowing just how to feed. Our class focuses on navigating your baby’s behaviours and cues, so you know exactly what they need, when they need it!
Join me and other families-to-be to enhance your knowledge of breastfeeding your baby. Through understanding how to read your baby’s communication, identify problems and work through common challenges, this class will help you gain confidence in your feeding success. Learn how to listen to your intuition, how to get out of your baby’s way, and remain ready to meet your babies’ needs while meeting your own.
We will discuss:
- Breast anatomy, System of milk production & Milk removal
- Easy steps to get the best start possible
- Optimal latching, reflexive latching
- Secrets of consistent milk flow
- Signs of a well fed baby
- Common Barriers and how to avoid them
- Pumping & bottle feeding
- Ages and stages, what to expect
- Common Breastfeeding challenges, and when to get help
Consider this an add-on or extension of the traditional breastfeeding class content. I design the cirriculum to cover information above and beyond the typical prenatal info with a focus on the practical steps you may wish to take to optimize feeding in the first hours, days and weeks!
WHEN: Second Tuesday of each month.

Wow we are absolutely blown away by our clients 💜 Thank you Ingrid for your sweet words. We are so happy you felt supported during your experiences with . Posted • Appreciation post for International Midwives Day 💖

I’ve worked with pregnant and postpartum women for over 8 years as a pelvic health physio, and have heard a fair share of pregnancy journeys as well as birth stories. I knew when it was my time, I wanted the care of midwives for me and my baby.
Partly because I wanted to try for home births, because research shows better birth outcomes when you are in a safe and familiar environment. I’ve also heard positive home birth experiences from my clients!
But mostly because I know the midwives I check in with during my pregnancy will also be the ones I deliver with, and they will be with me during the entire birth (i.e. continuous labour care, no shift changes bringing in new ppl while you’re at your most vulnerable).

Even with high expectations of midwifery care, the ladies at have far exceeded them.

❤️ Check in appointments never feel rushed.
❤️ They give me all the information about tests, procedures and treatments so I can make an informed decision.
❤️ I can page them at any time if there was an emergency (for me or for baby).
❤️ During birth, there were only 3 people with me - two midwives and Ernest. Not a room full of unfamiliar people.
❤️ For the first 2-3 weeks postpartum, they came to my home to do the check ups on me and baby.
❤️ They really, truly care - about your physical and emotional health.
❤️ Both births with Avery and Riley went beautifully. It was a dream of mine to have a water birth with A. When it didn’t happen, I had largely given up on it for R. But my midwife, Joanna, gently made it happen, and it really was the best birth possible to me

With midwives, we are so lucky to be given the choice of where to birth and how to birth. And to have that choice is a privilege. Thank you to all the midwives
for your amazing care!

Wow, Lindsay. We are blown away by your thoughtful review and want to thank you for sharing your experience. Your advocacy is inspiring and helps to motivate the work we do ❤️Posted • Today was my last midwife appointment…ever (we’re done 😅). It’s hard to come up with the words to properly thank the women that helped bring my children into the world safely while also prioritizing my health and well-being.

What started out as a normal, easy pregnancy became something else. Debra, Kiran, Christina, and Sarion connected me with specialized grief counselling, provided a direct line for support and updates, and referred me to the medical specialists needed to assure all was safe for delivery. Ultimately, they helped me navigate what became a medical gauntlet leading up to delivery, and they did it with an exceptional level of empathy.

They always said they were just doing their job, and maybe they were, but I feel privileged to have had their care. Each midwife supports about 40 patients a year in Oakville with a wait list, which is a small fraction of the 3,500-5,000 births that happen in my hometown each year. Fully covered by OHIP like OB/GP care, it comes down to needing more provincial support for midwifery including advocacy and funding for training programs in order to offer this care to more folks in pregnancy. I’ll forever be an advocate 🤍
