You may recognize this familiar face!

Corinne has been volunteering around our studio for the last few months, but she is also a certified yoga teacher who is excited to share her love for yoga and teachings with you.

Join Corinne as she offers a free community yin yoga class on Friday March 28th, as well as April 11th & 25th from 2-3pm.

A little bit about Corinne:
Finding yoga in 2019 after her mom invited her to tag along to a 90 minute hot yoga class. After those 90 minutes she was hooked. She feels yoga is a deeply personal way to get to know and explore your own body. On her own journey, Corinne began to notice how the work she did on her mat began to translate into her day to day life. Working through the sensations and emotions of holding a difficult pose improved her ability to deal with difficult feelings outside of yoga. Focusing on her breathing on the mat began to help her relax in moments of anxiety. As she started to explore and expand her education in the mental health field she knew she wanted to learn how to share yoga with others. She completed her 200 hour YTT in power vinyasa in 2022 and has a passion for yin styles of practice. As a teacher she likes to encourage listening and adapting to your body and meeting yourself where you are each and every time you step on your mat.

Spots are limited! Register online through the Ground Yoga Aapp, Mindbody App or at www.groundyoga.ca

The standing poses are the basis, the bread and butter, of any asana practice they are an accessible, effective, and safe way to open up your hips, move your spine and learn to connect with your feet.

The standing poses, while foundational, level the playing field between beginner and more experienced students, they contain many intricacies and learning how to execute them well can make all the difference. These poses are for everyone, they are both challenging yet at the same time available to all levels, they are lifetime poses.

In this workshop we will dive into the detail of many of the fundamental standing postures and the actions we are looking to execute in them (as well as the actions we are looking to avoid). There will be lots of time to ask questions and go over any variations or modifications that might be necessary for individual needs!

Since becoming a father, Chad’s devotion has shifted. While managing all of the demands of new fatherhood, he has begun to focus on the subtler aspects of practice, coming to find wisdom and guidance in the practice of Kriya Yoga.

Join him for his birthday weekend with this special 2-hour class that will introduce you to Kriya Yoga - an ancient tradition that harmonizes breath, mind, and spirit, accelerating inner transformation and awakening higher consciousness.

Through this two-hour immersive session, you will:
* Learn about the historical context of Kriya Yoga.
* Explore the Sadhana Pada and Patanjali’s definition of Kriya Yoga (Tapas, Svadhyaya, Ishvarapranidhana).

Meditation… what is it? Well in short, the act of meditation focuses on the clearing of one’s mind by using a combination of mental and physical techniques. The practice of meditation has been around for thousands of years.. here are a few types of meditation that could be familiar, or completely new to you.

🌿mindfulness meditation — having an inner sense of calm, being fully present, and maybe focusing on your natural breath.
🌿yoga — a meditative practice. Rooted in the breath, awareness of oneself and inner focus.
🌿loving kindness meditation — focusing on the experience of compassion, empathy and love for yourself or perhaps those around you.

Dhyana, the 7th limb of Ashtanga yoga, and the meditation aspect of the practice.
Dhi — mind
Yana — moving
Dhyana is the effortless as opposed to effortful state of meditation.

Some potential benefits of meditation:
🌿decreased symptoms of anxiety & depression
🌿improved thinking & ability to concentrate
🌿emotional security and maturity
🌿inner solitude

Why massage therapy?

🌿improved mood, relaxation and overall wellness
🌿relief of physical and mental tension
🌿rehabilitate injuries
🌿better quality of sleep
🌿improved circulation, less stiffness, and quicker recovery!

Massage therapy can work hand in hand with the practice of yoga. While it helps to relax and loosen up the muscles, it also aids in your blood flow circulation, increased flexibility, and range of motion.
Many student at our studio have incorporated a massage treatment either before or after practice. Some may think this is counterintuitive, however, yoga is already designed to be a relaxing form of exercise-meets-meditation… adding a massage treatment brings that muscle relaxation and meditation one step further.

Find us as www.groundyoga.janeapp.com or call us at 306-244-4500 to book your next treatment today!

Mindful breathing… what is it? In short, mindful breathing is the act of paying attention by intentionally turning one’s thoughts inward, and purposefully focusing on your breath and its natural rhythm in a non-judgemental way.

Studies have shown that the practice of breath work is one of the best and most accessible ways to manage stress. These practices lead individuals to a greater sense of emotional stability, in turn, having a greater handle over their daily life stressors.

In some of our classes we offer a practice called Pranayama. This is an ancient technique that has been practiced for centuries. The word ‘prana’ translates to breath, while ‘ayama’ has many different meanings including expansion, length, and rising. There are many forms of pranayama, but often you will hear our teachers talking about ‘ujjayi’ breathing. This is a form of pranayama that creates heat and stability in the body during physical practice. You can also use ujjayi breathing as a reminder to not rush through the asanas.

Did you know that the tea we serve is blended in studio? That’s right! It’s called the Grounded Yogi Blend, consisting of ingredients such as peppermint, licorice root, tulsi, holy basil, and fennel seed. Its purpose is to warm your tummy, and calm your soul before practice.

If you love this tea as much as we do, we also have it for purchase! 10g for $3 & 100g for $15.

Inversions can be deeply beneficial postures for our health with a vast number of benefits. Some of them include:
🌿 increased circulation
🌿 support of the endocrine system
🌿 improvement of balance
🌿 overall strength building
🌿 relaxation

Often people think that an inversion can only be achieved in a headstand or handstand. However, this is far from the truth! An inversion practice is one where your heart is positioned above your head, making it accessible for everyone! Your inversion practice can be achieved through asanas such as downward facing dog, heart melting, legs up the wall, as well as shoulder stand.

If you are curious about expanding your inversion practice, join for a pop up inversions clinic on Sunday February 23rd and learn the key elements in a safe environment.
