Date for your diary!

Soft toy sleep over is coming to Abbots Langley Library on Monday 25 March 2024.
This is a free event, though donations are always very welcome

Bring your child and a soft toy (not your night-time favourite) join in with stories and rhymes before tucking your toy into bed for their very own sleepover.

Return the following day to see what antics they have been up too once the staff have gone home.

Our dragon for Chinese New Year needs some company for when the library staff are not in the building.
Why not colour in a dragon or pick one up to take home to colour in and bring back on your next visit!.

Slipper Swaps are returning to Libraries.

Trade in your worn-out slippers for free, old slippers can cause trips and falls which can lead to unnecessary stays in hospital.

With Slipper swap older residents and people at risk can swap their old slippers for brand-new anti-slip ones and find out more about keeping themselves safe and well
Just come along between 10am and 1pm and staff will be on hand to help you with slippers and information along with our community partners. AgeUK, Community Help Herts, Fire Crew, Herts Health Walks, Small Acts of Kindness.

Slipper Swaps 2023 will be held at the following libraries:

• Bishop’s Stortford Library - Thursday 12 October Launch
• Abbots Langley Library - Wednesday 18 October
• Stevenage Library - Monday 30 October
• Hatfield Library - Wednesday 15 November
• Hoddesdon Library - Wednesday 29 November
• Hemel Hempstead Library - Thursday 7 December

All events run 10am – 1pm

Older residents can swap their old slippers for a brand-new free pair of anti-slip ones - and find out more about keeping themselves safe and well at the same time.

NEW DATES!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have changed the dates of our Oculus VR experience.

Come along and give our Oculus VR headsets a try. Sessions will last approximately 15 minutes and are suitable for all ages (under 8s must have a parent or guardian present to give permission and supervise their child).

No booking required, just drop in. £2 suggested donation per family.

Dementia Awareness Week is coming up from 15th to 21st May.

We have put together a display of the books we hold at Abbots Langley Library for you to borrow to help you understand the causes and effects of dementia.

Hertfordshire libraries also offer reminiscence boxes to aid conversations and memories and Playlist for Life uses the power of music to prompt memories.

Announcing our new children’s after school group PAGE ONE.
Four fun Friday sessions at Abbots Langley Library starting on Friday 28th April at 4pm.

The book theme will be journeys, allowing for lots of fiction and non-fiction activities and book chat. Suitable for ages 7 to 11.

Places must be booked in advance, £10 for all four sessions

Hertfordshire Libraries were excited to present Joseph Coelho, Waterstones , with one of our new My First Library Cards. Stevenage Central Library was the 153rd stop on Joseph’s , his personal mission to join every local authority in the UK, aiming to highlight the amazing work of libraries and encourage people to join their local library.

Abbots Langley Library has a display which is linked to the Summer Reading Challenge. Where we require more bunting and more children to join!

What is the Summer reading Challenge?
Children sign up to read 6 books over the summer holidays which started on Saturday 9 July and finishes on Saturday 3 September. Visit the library 3 times and share 2 books which have been read, - exchange for scratch and sniff stickers.
After 3 visits to the library and completing the challenge the children will receive a pencil, medal and certificate."
