Friends and neighbours,

Are you feeling stressed, anxious, fed up or exhausted?
Would you like to try a science-based therapy that really works?

I’m reaching out to anyone in the local area who may be suffering with anxiety, stress or depression, or know someone who is.

I am a qualified, certified and accredited Solution Focused hypnotherapist in Drayton Village.

Unlike traditional hypnotherapy, this highly effective therapy is rooted in neuroscience, so there is no requirement to “believe” or be “susceptible to influence.” Entirely suitable for anyone who considers themselves to be “pragmatic” or “sceptical.”

An initial consultation with me is free, which can be online or in person.

You really do have nothing to lose!

Stress is functional - it's there to save your life! If we still lived in a time when wild animals roamed the UK countryside looking for a tasty human snack, it's the anxious worriers of this world who would most likely survive!

If this is you, you know the kinds of life-saving thoughts you have: "what if I go outside and a bear eats me?" Well maybe not that one, but your brain sees it the same as: "What if I take a chance and things go horribly wrong and I end up losing something important to me?" Thinking thoughts like these, you're more likely to lose confidence and opt for the safer decision. So you survive.

So, if you are more of a "worrier" than a "warrior," that's okay - it just means your stress response is nicely tuned for any potential animal attack!

The problem is, many of the things you worry about probably aren't going to eat you. Maybe your stress response is a little TOO tuned and you're missing out on some of life's adventures.

The good news is, you can train your brain to dial down this stress response to an: "only if my life is in peril" level. You can learn to bypass anxious thoughts, which automatically allows you to access the confidence that's been there, waiting for the danger to pass.

If you're interested to find out more, book a free initial consultation with me.

A little bit of Friday fun for all my anxious followers who can relate to having super-sensitive senses!

So when does anxiety become a disorder such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder? (GAD)

People with GAD tend to feel anxious about a lot of different things (for example... anything and everything!), rather than one specific thing (such as public speaking).

They experience anxiety most days and struggle to relax. They may feel worried or tense, find it difficult to sleep and feel restless. They may also develop physical symptoms such as dizziness, heart palpations, chest tightness, stomach issues or feel shaky.

If you can relate to any of these symptoms, please do reach out for help, either through your GP, or of course from a therapist like me!🙂

Did you know, that every negative "what if..." thought you have gets turned into anxiety?

Having multiple "what if...?" thoughts every day, can create or maintain a generally anxious state.

And of course, it's generally anxious people who are more likely to think negative "what if" thoughts... so we can end up in a vicious cycle of negative thoughts leading to anxiety... and anxiety leading to negative thoughts...

Where will it end?

Well, it ends by breaking the cycle! You can train your brain to think thoughts that create and maintain confidence, positivity and happiness (which is a lot more fun!)

If you'd like some help doing this, contact me today to book your free initial consultation.

Can you relate to that inner battle, where a bit of you knows what you "should" or "could" or "would" be doing... if it wasn't for the fact that the rest of your brain is fully in denial and refusing to buckle down?

For those of us who are worrying about the week ahead, it can be so hard to switch off and relax.

But we all know having a bit of "me time" is so important for our health and wellbeing.

Forcing yourself to relax is not easy, so why not try switching focus by choosing one activity you CAN do that makes you feel good, like having a warm bubble bath, reading or going for a walk.

When you do positive things like this, you release a little serotonin, which makes you feel good. The more you do, the more it accumulates, making it easier and easier to relax and unwind.

If you find it difficult to relax, please get in touch to find out how I can help.

Don't believe everything you think. Yep, deep down we all know this. We've heard it before, we've thought it before. So why do we keep forgetting? Why do we agree with posts like this one day, and then trust thoughts of not being good enough the next?

Why can't our brains stay consistent and just tell us the truth?

The problem is, we haven't just got one brain. We've got two. 🧠🧠

There's the brain that thinks all those sensible thoughts, the bit that nodded along in agreement when reading this post. This is our best and wisest self. We vow to always stay here... but we don't.

The reason we don't is because we've got another, older, primitive brain that gets emotional and freaks out over things. It's not doing it to annoy us, it's doing it to keep us safe. We need to have something in our heads that freaks out, or we'd do silly things like try to stroke a bear or swim with alligators.

The problem is we can't use both brains at once. They fight over who controls our thoughts.

So who wins?

Well, it depends how stressed we are. When we get stressed, sad, worried or upset, the primitive brain takes over because it thinks we're doing something scary and dangerous. Saving us from doing scary and dangerous things is a priority, so we operate from this brain until it thinks we're safe (i.e. calm and relaxed).

Unfortunately, this brain is not so enlightened - that's not really its thing.

So, we hop between brains, having a sensible moment here, and a freak-out "I'm not good enough and everybody hates me" moment there.

Understanding which brain we're in can make a huge difference. That's what gives us the power to stop and switch. Recognising where we are is like having a torch which we can use to guide ourselves out.

Hi, my name is Esme and I'm a hypnotherapist.

No, this is not hypnotherapists anonymous, but I am super enthusiastic about all things brain, which is probably bordering on addiction!

I offer Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, which is a bit special because it is based on neuroscience and is clinically proven to reduce anxiety and stress, lift depression and also helps with a wide range of brain-based issues.

It works by helping you to make biological and chemical changes to your brain, much in the way a personal trainer helps you to make changes to your body. Together we train your brain to build new neural pathways that are more helpful for you to think, feel and behave in a way that makes it naturally easier to achieve your goals.

My aim is to for all clients to leave each session feeling happier, calmer and more motivated to make and achieve positive changes in their lives. I must be doing something right, because my clients tell me that our sessions are interesting, fun, uplifting and enjoyable and above all - effective! (please see website for testimonials.)

If you'd like help with anxiety or stress, contact me now to find out how I can help.

Is it just me or can you also relate to this? The thoughts of what might happen, what did happen and what might never happen, go round and round and round...

Sometimes thinking about the past or the future can be a good thing - mentally rehearsing a conversation you are planning to have with your boss later might be useful, if you are thinking about it positively. Remembering something funny that happened last week can make you feel good all over again. 😊

But often, if we stop and really look at our thoughts, we might find that actually the majority of them seem to exist purely to torment us!

So if you find yourself overthinking today, it might be helpful to ask yourself "is this thought really helping me or is it actually making me feel worse?"

We can train the mind to slow down, step back and become more selective about the thoughts we have, skillfully choosing only the thoughts that are going to be beneficial to us. Hypnotherapy and mindfulness are two methods that have been shown to really make a big and lasting difference to the way we think.

If you are struggling with obtrusive, negative or overwhelming thoughts and you'd like help, please do reach out.
