Did you know?
St Patrick’s Day is celebrated each year on March 17th. The day is the observation of the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

☘️St Patrick was born in 385 AD in a place believed to be Banna Venta Berniae, a town in Roman Britain (his exact place of birth is however uncertain). He died during the fifth century in the year 461 AD at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland.

☘️ St Patrick’s Day commemorates the arrival of the Christianity in Ireland. It happened in the year 432.

☘️Patrick was born to Roman parents (Calpurnius and Conchessa). He was not Irish, instead, he was English. His given name was Maewyn Succat.

☘️ St Patrick’s Day is also known as the ‘Feast of Saint Patrick’ and the ‘Day of the Festival of Patrick’. Patrick studied and received his training in the religion for more than 12 years after he escaped from the captivity of the Irish raiders.

☘️Saint Patrick used Shamrock (a young sprig of clover) to teach the pagans about the Holy Trinity. The shamrock is now the official flower of Ireland. It is associated with St Patrick. St Patrick’s Day has been observed by the Irish as a religious holiday for more than 1,000 years.

☘️‘Blue’ was the colour associated with St Patrick before the adoption of green as the colour for the festival. The colour blue was featured both in the royal court and on ancient Irish flags. In 1798, the colour green became officially associated with the day.

☘️The first Patrick’s Day parade was held in Waterford (the oldest and the fifth most populous city in the Republic of Ireland) in 1903.

☘️Guinness (an Irish dark beer that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness) sale almost doubles on St Patrick’s Day as compared to the regular days when 5.5 million pints of it is sold.

Here's what you can do to help reduce the risk of your pet being stolen:

🐕Never leave your dog outside a shop on their own or in a car unattended.

🐕Train your dog to come back when called, and never let them off the lead
if you're not sure they'll come back to you. If in doubt, use a long-line lead, especially
if you're in an unfamiliar area where your dog may get lost more easily.

🐕make sure your garden is secure and if you have a gate then fit it with a lock. It's also a good idea to fit a bell to the gate so you hear if anyone opens it.

🐕don't leave your dog on their own in the garden, or at least keep them in view.

🐕Get your dog microchipped - the best way of making sure you can be reunited with your dog if they're lost or stolen is to have them microchipped, which is now a legal requirement. It's vital to keep your contact details up-to-date on the database, so remember to update them if you move home or change your phone number.

🐕keep recent photographs of your pet and make a note of any distinguishing features.

🐕Take care when choosing someone to care for your dog if you're going away or need a dog walker while you go to work. Use a reputable company or boarding kennels, and check references for people who provide dog or house-sitting services.

🐕Neuter your pet, as this can reduce the likelihood of them roaming.

🐕Put a collar and tag on your pet - when they're in a public place, every dog must wear a collar with the name and address of their owner engraved on it, or on a plate or tag attached to it. We also recommend including your mobile phone number on any ID, as this can help reunite you with your pet quickly should they ever get lost or stolen.
