🎉 Celebrating Mona’s 100th Birthday 🎉

Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in recently celebrated Mona’s 100th birthday in style.

On her special day, Mona enjoyed a trip to The Lamb Pub – a favourite spot of hers that’s owned by her son and holds many fond memories.

It was truly special to see her there once again, surrounded by friends, family and team members from the home. Everyone shared stories, laughter and moments from Mona’s incredible life.

One of the highlights was her joy at receiving a birthday card from the King – the smile on her face said it all!

She was full of joy dancing and singing with everyone.

What a fantastic celebration. Happy Birthday, Mona! 👏

🏃 Join the Great North Run for Charity 🏃‍♀️

We’re excited to share that three charity places are available for Barchester colleagues to take part in the Great North Run, which takes place on Sunday, 7th September.

The route stretches from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields and is one of the UK’s most iconic half marathons.

To secure a place, there is a £25 registration fee and a fundraising target of £300 in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

🍰☕ Sweet treats and afternoon tea perfection ☕🍰

Desserts have dazzled and the afternoon teas have been nothing short of delightful. From delicious puddings to stunning cakes, the creativity just keeps on coming.

Our Regional Directors truly embraced their inner pâtissiers, all for a brilliant cause.

To make the day even more exciting, many of our care homes and hospitals are following along, preparing and enjoying their own delicious treats.

A big thank you to our brilliant judges, who now face the very difficult job of choosing the winners.

And the results are in… 👩‍🍳🥧

After much deliberation our judges decided that the best overall pie was created by none other than our Head Chef, Chris Aston! 👑

In the words of our lovely resident Joan, ‘It was a very close call’ as both were absolutely delicious but what tipped the decision in Chris’ favour was the simplicity of his bake! 🥧

Our home this afternoon has been full of joy and laughter with residents and staff taking part, enjoying each other’s company and having fun. It was lovely to see the whole home come together, showing support and love for our wonderful team and the fantastic job they do!

Well done to Chris and Nataliya and our fabulous panel of judges! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

😍 44 Years Later, a Surprise Reunion at The Spires 😍

Residents and colleagues at The Spires Care Home in witnessed a heart-warming moment, when receptionist Zita discovered that Margaret, a resident at the home, was her former teacher from 44 years ago!

It turns out, Margaret played a pivotal role in Zita's life, igniting her lifelong passions for sewing and reading. Zita felt an instant connection to Margaret and everything suddenly fell into place.

Zita unearthed her old school reports, penned by Margaret herself - and an apron she made in Year 5. The look on Margaret’s face was priceless.

Margaret was absolutely overwhelmed, saying it completely made her day to know she’d had such a positive impact. "What a small world we live in!" she said. "And I’m so glad I did something right. A lot of water under the bridge since then!"

We had a blast with our residents at the park today! Nothing beats the simple joy of swinging on the swings, laughing and enjoying the sunshine. It’s amazing how something so simple can create so much happiness and bring back such wonderful memories!

Jessie said ‘I’ve had a wonderful day, I’ve felt like a kid again’. With lots of happy tears, Jessie didn’t want to leave and asked if we could come back again soon.

We’re so grateful for these moment together. 🛝🦆☀️🌼🌸🌿

⭐ Double Awards Finalist ⭐

Colleagues and residents at Woodside House Care Home in are overjoyed because their talented senior head chef, Kimberley Cooper, has reached the final of the Care Home Catering Awards 2025. She has been nominated in two categories, the ‘Above and Beyond Special Award’ category for all that she does for her residents over and above her day job and for the ‘Group Care Home Caterer of the Year’ award.

Organised by Care Home Catering Magazine, the Care Home Catering Awards recognise and reward best practice in delivering person-centred nutritional care.

A much-loved member of the team, Kim was nominated by her colleagues who are full of praise for her delicious meals and for her caring manner with the residents. Kim works hard to ensure her meals are exactly right for each of the residents, catering for all their different nutritional needs. She not only makes sure her dishes are packed with flavour but she also gives the residents a 5-star dining experience.

Kim shared: “I absolutely love my job, nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing our residents eating well and enjoying their food, it really is the best feeling in the world to know your meals are so appreciated.”

🇬🇷🛳️ Glenroyd Cruise Line 🇬🇷🛳️

Residents at Glenroyd Care Home in recently embarked on a special voyage with ‘Glenroyd Cruise Line’ to celebrate Greek Independence Day.

Captain Debbie warmly welcomed everyone aboard, ensuring passports and tickets were ready for the exciting Greek adventure.

The dedicated cruise team went above and beyond to provide an authentic experience. Residents received personalised passports, ship tickets and heartfelt welcome messages.

The journey continued with a delicious Greek-inspired feast, crafted by the home’s talented hospitality team. Residents enjoyed traditional dishes, including fresh Greek salad, chicken gyros and homemade baklava.

Ena, a resident at the home, shared: ‘I've visited Greece many times and Crete is my favourite island. Thank you for bringing back these lovely memories of my travels with my husband. It truly means a lot!’

We’re thrilled to share that two of our care homes - Burwood Grange in and Highfield in - have been listed by Knight Frank in a prestigious property guide: the Top 100 Luxury Care Homes in the UK.

Chosen from hundreds of entries across the country, both homes opened last spring and provide bespoke, person-centred residential, dementia and respite care in beautifully designed surroundings.

Wishing you all a very happy Mother's Day 💐

Our lovely resident John, 91 years old joined us here at Cherry Trees earlier this year and is settling into life at Cherry Trees wonderfully.

Over time our activities team have supported and encouraged John to come along to enjoy our Musical Reminiscence activity which runs weekly within our home where Rachel, our Activities Assistant sings and plays the piano.

Through John’s regular attendance and grown confidence we discovered he used to play the piano by ear and was in fact a very talented musician who always loved to busk. John however had always been very modest about his ability, especially as he hadn’t played for some time.

This week, John gave us a wonderful surprise, when he throught no one was looking sat himself down at the piano and started to play, ‘My Happiness’ by Jim Reeves. One by one our residents and staff heard the music and curious to know who was playing, made their way quietly into the lounge where John broke into song and started singing as he played.

This was such a special moment for everybody, the more John played the more confident he became receiving a huge applause and a beaming smile from everyone.

Supporting our residents to feel happiness and enjoyment is one of the greatest feelings in the world. 🎶🎼🎹🎵🤍

🥖 Baguettes at the Ready 🇫🇷

Many of our care homes and hospitals celebrated French Language Day in style recently.

Residents and patients enjoyed a wonderful day filled with themed activities, French lessons, music and classic films.

Of course, no French celebration would be complete without delicious treats - croissants, macarons and a taste of French wine.

It was a fantastic opportunity to explore the French culture and reminisce about past travels.

📺🎉 Beaufort Grange Features on The One Show 📺🎉

Residents and colleagues at Beaufort Grange Care Home in Cheswick Village, are celebrating their newfound fame after taking part in The Hoppiness Project, which was featured on BBC’s The One Show as part of its focus on dementia.

Ted Lasso’s Kola Bokinni, whose father lives with dementia, introduced the piece, sharing his own personal experiences alongside those of our residents.

Last year, Beaufort Grange teamed up with local group Alive Activities to take part in a brilliant gardening initiative. Residents grew hop vines in the care home garden, harvested the cones and contributed to the brewing process - before enjoying a well-earned pint at the end! 🍻

This fantastic project built on residents’ considerable knowledge of gardening, helped nurture friendships and links with community groups.

Raji Sunil, General Manager at Beaufort Grange said: “This was a fantastic initiative from start to finish, the residents really enjoyed looking after the hops, watching them grow and change. Their favourite part however had to be getting to drink the beer at the end of the project! It was so wonderful to see the residents featured on The One Show celebrating their achievements, that really was the cherry on the cake!”

Many of our care homes and hospitals celebrated this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week in style with yummy, wholesome food, thirst-quenching beverages and engaging activities along the way.

🎤🎵 Come Sing! To Feel Good 🎤🎵

Residents and patients across the country had a fantastic time recently joining Dan Cooper, Vocal Coach from Biiah, for a brilliant virtual sing-along.

With the uplifting ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba and ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ by The Beatles, there was plenty of singing and dancing all around.

The session was a great success, bringing benefits for the mind, body and soul, and leaving everyone full of spring cheer.

Continuing with Nurtrition and Hydration Week, this afternoon saw us host a tea party whilst those who couldn’t make it enjoyed a visit from our mobile tea trolley too! 🫖🍰

👩‍🍳🍽️ Exciting news! 👩‍🍳🍽️

We’re thrilled to share that our Regional Directors Clare Mudge and Melissa Harker will be trading their business suits for aprons and going head-to-head in a charity cook-off to raise money for Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

The cook-off is taking place on Wednesday 9th April, where two Regional Directors from each Barchester Division will team up to produce exquisite dishes to impress the judges. The cook-off will promote collaboration, creativity and a fun competition across the divisions, in addition to raising funds.

Each pair will create four dishes – a starter, main course, dessert and afternoon tea. The competition will be judged by the Barchester Executive Board members who are seasoned foodies!
Barchester’s Charitable Foundation helps connect vulnerable people and those living with disabilities to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.

Fabulous start to our Nutrition and Hydration Week! Not only did we kick off with brilliant breakfast fruit platters but it was St Patrick's Day so we had a leprechaun handing out delicious fresh fruit!
