👻 It’s that spooky time of year when many people wear novelty contact lenses to add to their costume look.

🚫 Remember, in the UK, it’s illegal for suppliers to sell contact lenses, including non-prescription novelty and coloured lenses, unless they are supplied by a registered health professional, such as an optometrist.

If you come in to the practice to have your Spectacles adjusted or to have a basic frame repair, we won't charge you. All we ask is that you make a donation to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
You can the have a Poppy as a bonus extra!

Did you know that being physically active has been shown to reduce your risk of visual impairment by 58 per cent, compared to somebody with a sedentary lifestyle?

Michael Beaver Opticians are proud to be taking part in National Eye Health Week 2024. Todays topic is "Affordable Eye Care".
As part of our service to look after all of our patients, we offer NHS funded eye examinations.
In England, you qualify for an NHS Eye Examination (at no cost to you) if you:
- are aged 60 or over;
-are registered as partially sighted or blind;
- have diabetes;
- have glaucoma or been told by an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) that you’re at risk of glaucoma; or
- are 40 or over and have a parent, brother, sister, son or daughter who has been diagnosed with glaucoma.
- are under 16, or under 19 and in full-time education;
- have been prescribed complex lenses and are eligible for a ‘complex lens voucher’ (your optometrist can tell you more about this);
- are on, or your partner is on, or you’re under the age of 20 and the dependent of someone on, Income Support, income-based Employment and Support Allowance or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;
- receive, or your partner receives, or you’re under the age of 20 and the dependent of someone who receives Pension Credit Guarantee Credit;
- are, or your partner is, or you’re under the age of 20 and the dependent of someone who has been awarded Universal Credit and meet the criteria on earnings limit;
- are a prisoner on leave from prison;
- are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate; or
- are named on a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2) (if you are named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3), you may also get help)
If you meet any of the above criteria, you are eligible for a free NHS Eye Examination, and we are happy to examine your eyes.

Did you know that by the time we reach our 60s over 96% of us will require some form of vision correction?
Having regular eye examinations, which are free on the NHS for all over 60's, can help improve quality of life by detecting and treating eye problems early.
If you have a physical or psychological illness that leaves you housebound ask us about domiciliary eye examinations that we can carry out in your home, residential home or day care centre.

Every class in Britain has at least one child with poor colour vision!
Routine eye tests are recommended to keep your eyes and vision health.

Did you know that there are more than a million children in the UK with undetected vision problems?
Every child should have an annual eye examination with an Optometrist, and this is available under the NHS at no charge to you, the parent.

Are your patients aware that children’s sight tests are free?

Our survey found 1 in 4 parents are not aware that NHS sight tests are free so we're encouraging them to book a with an optometrist early, rather than relying on school screenings.

As part of our services, we offer Home Visit Eye Examinations. If you fit within any of the NHS Eye Examination Categories, and are unable to attend the practice unaccompanied, we can come to you. All we ask is that you tell us the medical reason that you cannot attend the practice (to comply with NHS guidelines).
We will come to see you, and offer a full eye examination, and will bring a selection of Spectacle frames for you to try on. If you need or want a change in Spectacle frame. We can even reglaze your current spectacles, if you can cope without them whilst we are doing this.
