When security colleague Neil from our Hebburn supermarket saw a customer getting flustered because she'd brought the wrong bank card and didn't quite have enough money to pay for her shopping he immediately tapped his own card to make up the difference.

Neil didn't want paying back, and instead told the customer the pass the kindness on. She was so touched by his actions that she posted on the Parent Network South Tyneside Facebook group to say: "I did thank him so much in person, but think everyone deserves to know that there is still some decent people in this world and most definitely will pay it forward."

Neil said: "The lass was getting a bit flustered. I just said don't worry about it and tapped to pay with my card and told her to pass the kindness on. It was just a spur of the moment thing. I've done it before for people on the bus when people have had trouble paying with their cards. I didn't expect all the nice comments – I was just doing the right thing."

Colleagues at our Huntly supermarket couldn't wait to meet baby William after he made a dramatic entry to the world when he was delivered by his dad Michael in the store's car park.

Michael and his wife Dinara were on their way to the maternity hospital in Aberdeen when they realised they weren't going to get there in time. He phoned the hospital to ask what to do and they told him to pull over somewhere safe and call 999. Michael said: "I saw the bright lights of the Asda car park and thought it would be perfect spot as the ambulance would find its way to it quite easily."

The call handler talked him through what to do and in no time at all Dinara had given birth to 9lb 2oz William in the reclined front passenger seat. Michael said: "It was a wee bit scary, but it was okay. The guy on the phoned told us what to do; he was great." The ambulance arrived within five minutes and took Dinara and William to hospital while Michael followed. Michael said: "William went three days in hospital without a name. We did consider George because of the Asda connection but we went with William in the end!"

When store manager Linda found out about William's unexpected arrival she took a bouquet of flowers to their home and then invited the family to the store so she could given them a hamper full of baby goodies. She said: "We just wanted to do something a bit special ... it's not every day that a baby's born in your car park. William was just beautiful and he was giving me smiles. I was delighted to meet them."

Twenty-year-old home delivery driver Billy from our Boston store is always happy to make the time to have a friendly chat while he's delivering groceries – and one customer posted on Facebook to thank him for spending some time with her 90-year-old mum, saying it "meant the world to her".

Billy said: "I just sensed that the lady wanted to chat so I sat and talked with her for a while. She talked about her family, and I talked about mine, as mine's quite well known in Boston and she'd heard of them. When you find out that it meant a lot to her it's very nice. I'll do anything to help my customers. The other day I helped someone set up their bluetooth, and on another occasion I helped an elderly customer find a replacement Hoover on Facebook. I love my job."

The store's online trading manager Luis said: "Billy is a lovely lad, really bubbly and outgoing. He's always helping people and will talk to everyone. He takes a lot of pride in his work."

Animal-loving home delivery driver Tash from our Grimsby store was the hero of the hour when she reunited a lost dog with its frantic owners after spotting it while out on her rounds.

Tash, who has two dogs herself, saw the pug running from garden to garden on its own and sensed something wasn’t right. After parking her van, she managed to scoop the little dog with the help of some treats that she had before she started knocking on people's doors to ask if anyone knew its owner.

When she’d almost given up hope and was about to put the dog into the van and take it to work with her, a couple of dog walkers told her the desperate owners were in a car scouring the neighbourhood.

Tash said: "The owner was so relieved and thankful when she saw me with her dog. She was crying her eyes out, so emotional. The dog recognised its owner straight away and tried to leap out of my arms and into the car. I was just so pleased that she got her dog back. I'd do the same thing again in a heartbeat."

When Asda colleague Anne spotted that someone had left a handbag at a bus stop near our Derby store she went out of her way to make sure she got it back.

The handbag contained passports, money and bank cards, so Anne knew that whoever it belonged to would be frantic with worry when they realised it was missing. She noticed a letter inside with the lady's name and address, so caught a bus so she could return it to her home. Anne's a regular customer on the trentbartonland bus, and when the driver noticed she wasn't getting off at her usual stop he asked her if everything was okay. When she told him what she was doing he waited for her so that she wouldn't have to wait to get back home.

Anne said: “The handbag could have fallen into the wrong hands If I hadn't picked it up. I never thought twice about it. I would hope someone would do the same if if ever happened to me. The lady was overwhelmed and very grateful when I knocked at her door. I couldn't stay long as I was conscious the driver from Trentbarton and the passengers on the bus were waiting for me. The driver was brilliant. The next day the lady and her husband came into the store to thank me again and give me some flowers. They said 'most of their life' was in that bag."

Asda Derby's community champion Rosie said: "The customers were extremely grateful and quite emotional. Anne was very modest and just said she did what any decent person would do, but I think it was much more than that and that you're an absolute credit to Asda."

Two-year-old David loves shopping at our Roehampton store with his parents Susana and Tim and always gets lots of smiles from customers when he brings in his own little Asda shopping trolley.

So he was thrilled when the store's community champion Tina got him his own him T-shirt, lanyard and a name badge so he could be an Asda colleague for the day and give porters Les and Tony a helping hand. Tina said: "He was a very happy little boy and so, so cute. Everyone loves him here. He has always been fascinated by our porters and will actively look for them as soon as he gets to the car park. And as he's got bigger he even loves to help tidy up the car park as he likes things in order."

Susana said: "David really loves going to Asda. He started to walk when he was eight months old and he got his little trolley when he was one. He wanted to do what we do in the store. He has his own shopping list which has strawberries and bananas on it. He always smiles at the porters when he sees them and they always give him high fives when he sees them. The staff there are very friendly and David loves to help them."

David from our Coleraine store saved the life of a man in his 80s who he found lying on the freezing pavement as he made his way home in the early hours of the morning.

The gentleman had fallen a few hours earlier and couldn't get up on his own, so David put him in his car and cranked up the heat to warm him up before taking him to hospital. Night shift leader David, who's been at the store for 12 years, said: "I didn’t want to take any chances – especially if he had bumped his head, so I drove him straight to A&E. When we arrived, the nurses came out to help me bring him inside. I explained what had happened, and they were so thankful I brought him in. I was glad to be able to help. I didn’t think twice about it really, I was just doing the right thing."

The man's daughter said: "David was a lifesaver. The fact that he took the time to stop, check on my dad and help him the way he did, it means everything to us. He was an absolute star. Someone at the hospital noticed my dad’s rescuer was wearing an Asda uniform, so I rang up hoping to thank him, and we ended up speaking on the phone for about an hour. Thankfully, my dad is out of hospital now and back home, safe and sound. We truly cannot thank David enough and we need more people like him in the community!”

Happy Mother's Day to mums everywhere. This year we're celebrating the mums from our stores across the country who work alongside their children – see just how many there are in the video in the comments below 👇

There are three generations of the same family at our Eastlands store in Manchester, where grandmother Chris works with daughters Gillian and Donna and granddaughter Chelsea.

Gillian's worked for Asda for 17 years and was joined by Chris four years ago. Donna's been there for six years and Chelsea joined the team 18 months ago. They all work on the date code team, knocking down prices on chilled, produce, bakery and ambient departments. Chris said: "It's great for me as a mum as I get to see them all the time. It's just so nice. If we have problems we are there for each other. If one of us is down we can cheer each other up. We all get on and are really close. I see my daughters as friends. I love working here; it's very friendly and has such a nice atmosphere."

Gillian said: "I started at the store when Chelsea was six months old and my mum used to babysit – and now they're both working here with me. We all get on like a house on fire. We're all very close and are always there for each other. We're all very passionate about our jobs and we love to give our customers a bargain."

We hope they, and mums everywhere, have a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Talented singer-songwriter Mia, who works as a home shopping picker at our Melksham store while studying performing arts at Bath College, has just released her first song – a tribute to her mum, Debby, who passed away six years ago.

Mia, who's 17, says the reaction to the song, called Even Now, has been amazing. She said: "Everyone really likes the song – I've made a lot of people cry. I got a really nice message from a girl whose dad had passed away a year ago and said my song really helped her." Debby died aged 44 from brain cancer when Mia was just 11. Mia said: "She was lovely, really great, very outgoing and fun. She was a really good mum who always knew what to do."

Mia was helped with the song by her producer friend, Tom Pegler. She said: "He wrote the piano instrumental but I wasn't sure what I wanted to sing about so he said 'just see what happens' and I ended up singing about my mum. I sang a verse with him and then came up with the rest of the lyrics. It was just how I was feeling at the time – it just came out."

Asda Melksham's online trading manager Sarah said: "We are all very proud of Mia and know that she will go far in her music career. We wish her well along the way."

When colleagues at our Derby store say that working at Asda is like being in one big family they're not wrong ... there are 18 different mums at the store who work with their children!

One of the mums looking forward to Mother's Day is Wendy, who says that her daughter Ellie calls her by her name to avoid confusing the store's other mums. She said: "When someone says mum here we all turn around! Asda is such a brilliant place to work and we are like one big happy family. We are all friends here and often have nights out together too. I started out as a temp 19 years ago and I'm still here!"

Optical colleague Clare first started working at the store 30 years ago, and met her husband Andrew at Asda. Clare's sisters Mandy and Sharon have also worked there, so it was no surprise to her that her daughter Alisha joined her at Asda three years ago. Clare said: "I suppose it was inevitable that Alisha would work here too! She loves it here and she's loved by everyone. We have lunch together every day and it's a real treat working in the same store as her."

Alisha, who's a front end colleague, said: "I see Mum more here than at home! Each time she comes past she'll check on me and I do the same when I'm passing her department. Everyone knows she's my mum, but I'm only just discovering how many people here are related and now when I look at some of my colleagues I do think 'you're familiar'. It's really special how many mums there are working with their children here. I'm taking mum out for some food and to treat her on Mother's Day. She deserves the world, as she's so lovely." When bakery colleague Charlotte from our Leek supermarket spotted an elderly lady wandering in the streets on her own she immediately sensed something wasn't right – so quickly stepped in to help her.

Charlotte was walking to work when the saw the lady, who's in her 80s, and was worried that she looked confused. The lady didn’t know where she was or her name, so Charlotte brought her to the store and into the warmth of the colleague canteen while she got her a cup of coffee and called the police to help.

Charlotte said: "It's strange but I don't normally work that day, but I'm glad I did. It was dark and there was no one else around. She was really confused so I couldn't just leave her. When the police came they said it had happened before so they already had the lady's details so they were going to take her home. She was a lovely lady and, even though she was confused, she still said thank you as she left. I'm just glad she got home safely."

Store manager John said: "It's so easy to not be that Good Samaritan and just keep walking. Well done Charlotte. It was a really nice thing you did, and something that not everyone would have done. You've given our mantra of "Don't Walk By" a new true meaning of what Asda stands for in our local community. I know I'm incredibly proud of you and I'm certain the whole store feels the same."

Well done to customer service desk colleague Jam from our Queslett store who stopped an 87-year-old customer from becoming the victim of a gift card scam.

The gentleman has asked Jam for help with the purchase of a £200 Apple gift card and alarm bells started to ring when she started to ask questions about what it was for. Jam called the police after looking at the gentleman's phone as she realised he'd fallen victim to scammers previously.

Jam said: "We all know about gift card scams and there were a few red flags. I just couldn't stand by and let this gentleman be scammed. I was extremely concerned. He was constantly getting notifications and messages on his phone from the scammers demanding he send then gift card codes. They were pretending to be his friends, which just goes to show just how manipulative these scammers can be."

Tracey, the store's customer trading manager, has nominated Jam for an Asda service superstar award. She said: "I'm really proud of Jam for looking after one of our elderly customers. She was really worried about him so she sat with him until the police came which shows just what a caring person she is."

In honour of Newcastle United hero and former Asda colleague Big Dan Burn our Blyth store is retiring its number 33 porter jacket!

Local lad Dan, who wears the number 33 shirt, cemented his place as a Newcastle United hero after his goal helped the Magpies end their 70-year wait for domestic silverware following their 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. And this Friday he could be putting on an England shirt for the first time in the World Cup qualifier against Albania at Wembley.

At the age of 16, Burn worked part-time in our Blyth store wearing a high vis vest, whilst studying sports science and playing football for Darlington.

Store manager Dean said: "There's been such a buzz around the store this week following the win and we just wanted to celebrate the achievements of our former colleague and to let him know how proud we are of him and the team. In ode to Dan we've now retired the no 33 Asda porter jacket – we plan to get it framed and displayed in the store and we're hoping that Dan will pay us a visit soon along with the trophy."

Asda community champion Diane is helping the store celebrate this Friday by putting on a special "Dan Burn Day", encouraging all colleagues to wear the famous Newcastle black and white colours as well as providing them all with a special matchday pie and pea lunch.

When a customer felt poorly at our Edmonton Green store, in stepped security section leader Kwabena – affectionately known as KK – who got him a chair, some water and stayed with him until he felt better.

He didn't want the customer, who was in his late 70s, to walk home on his own so he paid for a taxi for him out of his own pocket. He said: "We have a lot of regular customers here; we are like one big family. I just did what I felt was the right thing to do."

Kay, the store's customer trading manager, has nominated KK for an Asda service superstar award for his kindness. She said: "KK's a much valued member of the team and has built good relationships with colleagues and customers alike. Most customers know him and respect the job he does. He deserves some recognition for this act of kindness and generosity. He is a credit to our store."

Ten-year-old Lincoln was so moved by stories about the homeless and people struggling to afford food that he set up a charity box outside his home. In just a few days he collected an amazing £125 from neighbours, family and school friends – and used it at our Weston-super-Mare store to buy groceries for the town’s food bank.

The store’s community champion Odette helps out at the food bank once a week. She helped Lincoln find some of the things the food bank needs most, and packed up the shopping which totalled a whopping 63 kilograms. Odette and Lincoln’s mum Charlie helped him pack it up, and they all drove to the food bank to deliver it.

Frederique from WsM Foodbank said: “Young people like Lincoln are inspirational and remind every one of us that we can all make a difference in our community.” Lincoln’s mum Charlie said: “We are really proud of Lincoln. He sees things through a child's eyes and just wants to help people. I'm hoping what he's done will inspire other kids to do the same."

He's competing in the Senior Elite ABA Championships this month and is setting his sights on competing in the Olympics in 2028.
