A beautiful evening to get the rest of my daily steps - I aim for 10k a day.
Being sedentary is linked to a higher risk of disease and this is often said to be under 4k.
Just increasing your steps over the day can help, always start where you are at and go for a goal that you can achieve - such as a 10 minute walk in the morning.

Happy Monday,
I do aim for 10k steps or more over the a day and yesterday this included a family snowy walk.
I like to wear spikes to keep me standing but I just seemed to be collecting the ice!
Spreading your movement over the day helps to regulate your blood sugar - aim to move every hour or so.

Hello,

Do you suffer from heartburn, indigestion or reflux?
Over the last few months I have been studying for an accreditation with .with.confidence, I am now getting towards the end of the course and looking forward to helping people with reflux and supporting their digestion.
Digestion is an automatic process in our body but there are many things which we can do to improve it and hopefully reduce our symptoms.
The better we digest our food the more nutrients we are going to absorb and that can only be a good thing.
I already have a session in my programme on Mindful eating, but once I get this accreditiation I will increase the emphasis on supporting your digestion and this is important because if you begin to eat more whole foods you need your digestion to be working well.
I will also be running a new programme to help you support your digestion in the new year - please send me a DM to go on the waiting list.

One Step a Week - aim for 7-8 hours sleep a night.
Quality sleep is a major part of a healthy lifestyle, we should be aiming for 7 - 8 hours sleep a night and this may help to contribute with keeping your brain healthy.
Can you tell if you have had a good nights sleep?
When you wake up with a clear head and feel fab - well this can be due to the glyphatic clearance which can occur during a good nights sleep.
During our deep sleep the brain shrinks in size to enable a special cleaning process to occur - glymphatic clearance, which studies have shown can help to remove toxins and waste from the brain.
This process can not occur if we do not get enough sleep, so it is a good idea to look at your sleep hygiene which can make a difference.
- Firstly, decide on a regular bed time and wake up time, this consistency will help to train your brain to know when to feel tired.
- Having a warm bath about an hour before going to bed may help to make you feel sleepy. If you add Epsom Salts, the magnesium they contain may help you to relax.
- A herbal tea, such as chamomile, or a night time blend can also help you to relax and feel sleepy.
- Practice meditation or deep breathing to improve the quality of your sleep. Focusing on your breathing and making your out breathe slightly longer than your in breathe helps to put your body into the ‘rest and digest’ parasympathetic mode. For example, you could try breathing in for a count of 4, holding for 5 and breathing out for 6.
- Have a read of a good book, preferably one which is not too exciting or full of suspense.
- Write down 3 things from the day that you are grateful for, this helps you to fall asleep feeling positive and happy.
Try for a couple of nights a week at least of 7-8 hours a night and see how much better you feel.

One Step a Week - eat lots of magnesium rich foods everyday
Magnesium is used in our body for hundreds of reactions, it is therefore very important to make sure that you are eating foods containing it everyday.
It is important for many aspects of good health, including bone health, energy creation, moving your muscles, controlling blood pressure just to mention a few.
Research published in June of this year has shown that it may be assisting with healthier aging too, as magnesium has a role in preventing DNA damage and lower levels of magnesium may be linked with an increase in damage levels to your DNA, this is a hallmark of aging and may be linked to the progression of some diseases - we want to keep damage as low as we can.
As magnesium is found in many wholefoods, increasing your intake will not be as hard as you may think and include:
Almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale, bananas, blackberries, avocados, peas and sweetcorn, black beans, quinoa, tofu, salmon and dark chocolate.
There are so many other bonuses to eating these foods, they are full of other important nutrients, and fibre too - all of which will be supporting your health too.
What are you going to add onto your shopping list this week?

Happy September,
Wherever ever you are on your health journey don’t stop, keep going.
A new month is a new start, what would you like to achieve this month - what is your goal for the month and what step or steps do you need to take to reach it?
It is all about you, it’s your journey, so don’t compare to anyone else.
What will make a difference to you?
I am introducing a new morning routine, I am getting up earlier and doing 15 minutes of HeartMath breathing, some stretching and balance, plus some sit ups.
I have to be in the kitchen ready at 7 to prepare and cook breakfasts for Haven Cottage and I was not finding the time afterwards to always do these.
What are your goals this month?
