I hear a lot the words β€˜Your Strong'

When we are in a positive, happy, fun loving space, those words leave us feeling empowered, superhuman, 'I'm doing good'. The worlds my Oyster, we dance through life enjoying the moments.

When we are in a crisis and we need some help and support. These words can be negative.

I have found that when I need support, kindness and compassion, when I've gained enough courage to ask for someone's help and I hear the words' 'Your strong'. I crumble inside, I wither and feel empty! Really I do, I get that hollow feeling in my stomach. I feel like shouting, Yes I'm strong, yet right now I'm not, I need some help, I don't say these words, I become quiet and find myself agreeing with advice that I'm not actually listening to.

To be told you're strong in a crisis, can leave you feeling as though you should not be asking for help. That you should be able to 'deal' with the issues, even if you feel they are bigger than you. That your knowledge and coping mechanisms are not beneficial to you, they are just they are a bit wonky right now, all your abilities still exist, they are overshadowed by current issues, past issues, issues you can't do anything about (or think you can't do anything about). We all, each and everyone of us, need support at different times in our lives, for differing reasons and intensity.

The next time a friend. a client, family member or a total stranger asks for support, consider your words, acknowledge they are in crisis, confused and frightened. If you can give a hug and reassurance.

I'm here, I'm listening, I'll work alongside you to unravel this mess. Yes, you are strong, right now you need someone to stand with you.... or anything along those lines, as long as your intent is authentic and true, your support will bring positive results with the person losing nothing, gaining insight and (whoop whoop) a crisis defeated.

Unlike shallow breathing, which relies on the chest and shoulders, diaphragmatic breathing engages the diaphragm to maximize the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

How to Practice Diaphragmatic Breathing

Find a comfortable position

Start by sitting or lying down in a relaxed position. You can place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen to monitor your breathing.

Relax your body

Close your eyes and focus on releasing tension from your muscles. Loosen your jaw, shoulders, and any other areas where you may be holding tension.

Inhale deeply

Slowly breathe in through your nose, allowing the air to fill your abdomen. As you do this, your abdomen should rise while your chest remains relatively still.

Exhale slowly

Gently exhale through your mouth, pushing out the air from your abdomen. As you exhale, feel your abdomen lowering.

Repeat and maintain a rhythm

Step-by-Step Guide

Find a comfortable seated position:
Relax and prepare: Take a few moments to relax your body and mind. Engage in deep breathing to let go of any tension, and if it feels comfortable, gently close your eyes to turn your focus inward.

Position your hand: Lift your right hand and bring it toward your face. Rest your index and middle fingers on your forehead, specifically between your eyebrows. Your thumb will be used to close your right nostril, and your ring finger or little finger will close your left nostril.

Close your right nostril: With your thumb, gently close your right nostril while inhaling slowly and deeply through your left nostril. Choose a comfortable count, such as 3, to regulate the duration of your inhalation.

Close both nostrils: Release your thumb from your right nostril and, using your ring finger or little finger, press against your left nostril to close it as well. Hold your breath for the same count as before.

Release the right nostril: Lift your thumb and exhale gradually and steadily through your right nostril, maintaining the same count that you used for your inhalation.

Inhale through the right nostril: While keeping your left nostril closed, inhale slowly and fully through your right nostril. Once again, count to the chosen number to establish a rhythm and balance.

Close both nostrils: After inhaling, close both nostrils by pressing your thumb against your right nostril and either your ring finger or little finger against your left nostril. Maintain the breath retention for the same count.

Release the left nostril: Lift your ring finger or little finger to release your left nostril. Exhale gently through your left nostril, ensuring a slow and controlled release, while counting to the chosen number.

Remember, anything you put on your skin eventually enters your body. Whenever possible, choose cosmetics and skincare products made from natural, organic ingredients. Alternatively, consider making your own using everyday items found in your fridge and pantry.

🌸 Nourish yourself with fresh, whole foods and be mindful of what you consume.

Your diet directly influences your well-being, so prioritize wholesome, seasonal, and locally sourced produce. Give your body periodic cleanses and take breaks from caffeine, alcohol, and sugar.

1. If it still bothers you after 24 hours, speak up within 48 hours.

Holding onto negative emotions can be damaging to your mental health. If something is bothering you, give yourself 24 hours to process your emotions. If it still bothers you after that, speak up within 48 hours. This gives you enough time to gather your thoughts and communicate effectively without letting the situation escalate.

2. Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for taking care of.

We often put others before ourselves, but it's important to remember that we deserve the same care and attention. Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for taking care of. This means eating well, getting enough rest, and doing things that make you happy.

3. A bad day doesn't mean a bad life.

It's easy to get caught up in the negativity of a bad day, but remember that one bad day does not define your life. Tomorrow is a new day, and with it comes new opportunities for positivity and growth.
