At Lake District School of Massage's retreat course by Rydal Water β¨οΈ
How to iron your clients!
Rest the soft underbelly of your forearms on the mid back and allow gravity to do the work.
Essential for massage therapists to prevent overuse of wrists and hands which can lead to RSI (and eventually of career). Plus your clients will enjoy the smooth, stretchy, releasing feeling π

Socials post ideas for massage therapists..
π Massage videos. It's satisfying to watch some effective moves, and makes people want to experience the massage for themselves.
π Tips/facts: Useful stuff that actually helps people such as massage tools/health/spiritual tips/stretches.
π You! At least the occasional post showing your smiley face. People want to see who they're buying from and a genuine smile instills trust. More so, its nice to hear your story... why are you doing what you're doing? How did you get there? Your stories areΒ fascinating and encourage others to be interested in what you can offer. Show some of your hobbies/pets/holidays too because a) makes your insta grid/page more enticing/breaks up the businss/product related posts and b) allows potential customers to connect with you.Β
π― Reviews/video testimonials. Show off! Make what your lovely clients have said about you visible, the key is that we can read/hear a transformation in them which we want for ourselves.
πTransformation: Express how you can get your clients from point A (with some sort of issue) to point b (relief from the issue). Whether its by talking on camera, some written text on a reel etc. People buy solutions to problems.
Also, make sure your bio has a clear way of booking an appointment, whether it's a link to your booking system or 'DM to book'.Β
Hope that gives you some ideas! What other social posts ideas do you have that could help self employed holistic therapists?

Self care for massage therapists is an important part of our training.
Learning massage isn't just about taking care of clients, it's equally about taking care of ourselves; the therapists. If not we get fed up and quit.
How do we do focus on therapist self care on our courses?
π§ββοΈ Yoga, shaking, stretching to release tension and calm the mind.
πͺ Back strengthening exercises to instill good habits
π§° Trying out self massage tools like the Theracaneand massage guns so that we can explore ways to self treat in between appointments
π₯ Setting up treatments swaps between group members to encourage continual development and experiencing massage in the long run
π§ββοΈCorrect body posture when providing treatments with a focus on using gravity/natural forces instead of our effort to apply pressure
π Having a laugh! No need to be too serious, massage training is for grown ups but you're not in actual school and the benefit is a space for giggles and fun. Theoretical content in class is in game and discussion form (no falling asleep writing out facts).
If you're ready for a rewarding job looking after yourself and others you will love our massage courses in the Lakes π @lakedistrictschoolofmassage

Day 5 of the 6 day Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy course for beginners @lakedistrictschoolofmassage π
After practising massage techniques for different body areas on days 1-4, back, arms, head, legs, feet, on day 5 the group get to carry out a 90 min full body treatment on each other which is what ix shown in this vid.
And you can see just how competent the course members can be after just 4 days of training from beginner level!π
From the teacher's point of view, watching them carry out professional level treatments on day 5 is very impressive, but also kind of boring because they are so good at it that they don't need much guidance by then, just a few reminders on technique and posture occasionally.
After this, on the final day 6 of the course there's an assessment: carrying out a consultation and treatment on a new person (not another course member), to simulate a real life therapist-client situation. Then after some home study, the course members start working with paying clients, healing, helping and enjoying earning. Just like that!

Foot massage tutorial π£
You can start by cleaning (baby wipes/hot cloth), then warming the foot with your palms ('foot sandwich'!), then some medium pressure circular or 'criss cross' thumb movements.
But firmer pressure should be applied with your elbow, or with forearm to avoid thumb/wrist strain.
Feels amazing! Our feet are often neglected and they do so much π‘π
You can find a detailed leg and foot tutorial including massaging with your arms (not hands) is on our Lake District School of Massage Youtube channel π©βπ»
