Hot Stone Massage

January Offer - 60 mins £45

Clinical or relaxation

Experience the powerful benefits of hot stone therapy in clinical massage. The heat from the stones deeply penetrates muscle tissue, enhancing blood circulation and promoting relaxation. This technique helps to reduce muscle tension, alleviate pain, and improve mobility, making it an effective treatment for chronic discomfort and post-injury recovery. Perfect for those with high stress or muscle imbalances, hot stone therapy supports faster healing and long-term wellness.

Hot stones when used for a relaxation style massage aids activation of your parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest-and-digest” system).
Activation helps to reduce stress, improve sleep, support digestion, lower blood pressure, and boost immunity. Similar benefits can be achieved by deep breathing, meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature to promote relaxation and balance.

Are you suffering with leg or calf pain?

This is a common condition I see in the summer months. When the sun is out the flip flops come out.

If you wear them too frequently, your feet and legs may start aching due to lack of support. To sum up, you'll probably want to reserve flip-flops for taking out the rubbish, showering at the gym, or wading at the beach. For anything more strenuous, you're better off grabbing sturdier shoes.

We all love a flip flop but remember to give your legs some love and include some calf stretches in your day. Leg massage is also great for relieving the muscle tension.

Thanks to Jing Institute of Massage & Complementary Medicine for some recent CPD in foundations of Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy. Topics covered included fascial work, trigger point therapy, stretching, Amma fusion and Craniosacral Therapy

Let’s talk AMMA Fusion

Amma fusion massage uses an exciting blend of the most effective Eastern massage techniques and draws from disciplines such as acupressure, table shiatsu and tuina.

Utilising the model of meridians, Amma is similar to acupuncture but uses the firm gentle pressure of hands in place of needles. In some occasions the therapist getting on to the table can aid in providing deeper pressure while protecting the therapists body mechanics.

Amma fusion is often successful in treating conditions that do not traditionally respond to other massage techniques. These include digestive complaints, sleep disturbances, chronic fatigue, neck or back pain that does not respond to a muscular based approach. It has the added benefit that it can be performed over light clothing which is preferable for some clients.

Scalenes

The scalenes are located in the neck between the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and the upper trapezius. On each side there are anterior, middle and posterior scalenes. The brachial plexus nerve bundle runs between the anterior and middle scalenes, so it is common for the nerve to become impinged due to common habits such as forward head posture or shallow breathing which can lead to shortened scalenes.

Clients coming in with neck pain and changes of sensation down their arm can often be linked back to restricted scalenes.

Fortunately this condition is often successfully treated using Trigger Point Therapy to the scalene muscles which can be included in to your massage at Massage 650.

Pre / Post Event Massage

I had the pleasure of providing a pre event massage for a client this weekend before his first ever half marathon.

18months ago he would have laughed at the idea of running 5K let alone a half marathon!

I love meeting clients who have discovered a passion for a new fitness activity that changes their whole mind set about what their bodies are capable of.

A pre-event massage is not about trying to improve anything or fix an issue, unlike regular therapeutic massage. The fast paced, rhythmic massage stimulates the muscles and prepares for physical exertion.

A post-event massage is to aid recovery after the event. It jump-starts the healing process for soft tissue recovery. Massage increases fresh blood to an affected area delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the damaged tissues and muscle fibres. Post even massage allows for a quicker return to training and reducing the chance of injury.

If you are interested in a pre or post event massage, get in touch with Massage650.

Compression massage

Compression massage is one of several therapeutic massage techniques used for sports massage therapy, medical massage therapy and other prescriptions of massage for optimal performance, improved mobility and treatment of pain or discomfort. Compression massage can be characterized as rhythmic compression into muscles used to create a deep hypremia (an increased amount of blood in the vessels of an organ or tissue in the body) and softening effect in the tissues. It is generally used as a warm-up for deeper, more specific massage work.

Compression, as a massage technique, has many benefits including relaxation, improved circulation and recovery. When compressions are performed on the muscles, it stimulates affects the parasympathetic nervous system and is able to alter mood and produce feelings of relaxation. Compressions also help to improve circulation into the muscles by initially restricting the blood flow which then encourage a larger amount of blood to the area. Improved blood circulation in the muscles is beneficial to improving tissue conditions and preparing muscles for activity- beneficial for treatments before an athletic event. An additional benefit of compression massage is for increasing healing to damaged tissues and speeding up recovery. Compressions accelerate the healing process by increasing oxygen and nutrients into the tissues. Oxygen and nutrients can work to repair and heal any damaged cells.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Lottie who created an album of professional photographs to represent Massage 650.

I had an idea of some of the images I wanted to create but left Lottie to curate the final vibe. You can read some more about the session here. I’m so pleased with the results and Lottie managed to represent the ethos of Massage 650 perfectly. I look forward to sharing more images with you in the coming weeks …
