Good Morning - please welcome Dr Brodie to Team Hagley

It's a pleasure to be joining the team at Hagley Surgery.
I have been a GP in the Wyre Forest since I completed by general practice training in 2010. My career began at Stourport Health Centre (now Stourport Medical Centre ) and I became a partner in 2011. Early in 2023 I moved to Kidderminster Medical Centre where, at that point in time, there was a shortage of doctors. I very much enjoyed working at both of these practices.
Prior to embarking on a career in general practice I began training in paediatrics and I continue to maintain an interest in this field of medicine. I am the WFHP clinical lead for diabetes and have an interest in how we can all use lifestyle strategies to optimise our health. For the last 3 years I have been working as the chair of the Wyre Forest Health Partnership but I will be handing that role over to a colleague later this summer.
Outside of work I enjoy running and spending time with my family, especially supporting my 3 children with their sporting activities.
I am very much looking forward to getting to know the staff and patients of Hagley Surgery as I embark on this new chapter of my career.

🩷 Breast Screening 🩷

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in the UK and the chance of getting breast cancer increases as you get older. Despite this, a third of women in the West Midlands say they would be too embarrassed to attend a mammogram, while one in six say they would ignore a screening invite if they didn’t think they has cancer symptoms.

Regular breast screening is one of the best ways to spot a cancer that is too small to feel or see yourself. It saves around 1,300 lives each year in the UK. 🩺

Anyone registered with a GP as female aged from 50 up to their 71st birthday will be invited for NHS breast screening every 3 years. You’ll automatically get your first invite for breast screening between the ages of 50 and 53.

While you should never wait for symptoms to occur before booking screenings, it is always important to know the signs of breast cancer. These include:

-Lumps
-Swelling or pain in your breast or armpit
-A change in shape of your breasts or ni***es
-Noticeable change to the skin or discharge from your ni***es

Finding cancer early can make it more likely that treatment will be successful. Breast screenings can detect cancer long before you can even feel it.

So when you’re invited, save the date, it could save your life.

Message from Dr Ahmed Site Lead at Hagley

I have worked hard with dedication and commitment to my patients at Hagley over the past 7 years or so. I have enjoyed meeting many of the families and residents of Hagley and have seen the village grow in many ways. It is clearly a much busier place now than when it used to be. I am proud of the team at Hagley surgery who endeavour to be approachable, kind and caring to our patients.
It has come to a time unfortunately where I will be moving on to another practice and will be serving a different population. I will be leaving Hagley Surgery at the end of March 2025. It has been a tremendous honour and pleasure to serve Hagley as a GP and I hope you you can continue to support the practice going forwards.

🦠‼️Flu cases are rising – If you are eligible for a Flu vaccination and have not yet had your vaccination then it is not too late! 💉Contact us today to book an appointment. 🦠‼️

New NHS data covering the Christmas and New Year period shows flu cases have continued to skyrocket, with over 5,000 patients hospitalised with the virus.

There was an average of 4,469 patients with flu in hospital each day – almost 3.5 times higher than the same week last year.

Professor Julian Redhead, NHS national clinical director for urgent and emergency care, said: “These latest figures show the pressure from flu was nowhere near letting up before we headed into the New Year, skyrocketing to over 5,000 cases a day in hospital as of the end of last week and rising at a very concerning rate.

“On top of flu there is also continual pressure from Covid, while RSV and norovirus hospital cases are also higher than last year.

“With what looks like an extreme cold snap right across England this week, we know the low temperatures can be dangerous for those who are vulnerable or have respiratory conditions so if you are at risk, do try and keep warm and make sure you are stocked up on any regular medication.

24/12/2024

As of Monday 06th January 2025 Hagley surgery will be embarking on a new ‘Total Triage’ system for booking appointments. Although we have been providing triage for some time this updated version will include all appointments that are triaged by a Doctor first, based on the information provided on the online medical request form.

To create a Medical Request please follow the link https://florey.accurx.com/p/M81027 The practice has up 48hrs to respond to your request. For URGENT requests please call us on 01562 881700 or contact NHS 111 or dial 999 in the first instance where a care navigator will assist you.

If you are unable to create a digital request, then please continue to call the surgery as normal on 01562 881700 and the Care Navigators will complete the request on your behalf.

Please note: We are encouraging all our patients to use link above where possible. You can also use this link to create an Admin request i.e., Sick Notes or Repeat Prescriptions.

This service will be available between the hours of 07:00am – 17:00pm. For any health matter outside this time, please ring the surgery on the phone number above.

What is a Triage System?

Clinical triage is a clinical process conducted by a clinician, at Hagley Surgery.

This is now going to be a GP first process; to make early clinical decisions and signpost appropriately to either within the practice or elsewhere.

Care navigation and clinical triage allow practices to prioritise patients with the most urgent health needs, ensure they see the most appropriate clinician or are signposted to alternative services.

This can be done in-person either at the practice or at one of our other sites such as Kidderminster Medical Centre, over the phone or online.

Thank you for your patience.

We would also like to wish all of our patients a very merry and a healthy new year

Team Hagley
