7 weeks ago I listened to a podcast that asked, “What can you do today that the future you will thank you for?” This motivated me to start the Couch to 5K again. Yesterday, I ran non-stop for 25 minutes and I was chuffed to bits. If you want change you have to take action. Tell me what you can commit to today that your future self will thank you for!

Today we said our final goodbyes to Barbara (Bee) Prior. This amazing lady is the reason I changed career 7 years ago and became an EMMETT Practitioner.

I was referred to Bee, for physiotherapy, when I suddenly developed hearing loss in my left ear. After assessing my neck rotation she did a move, which didn’t resolve my hearing issue but increased my neck rotation to that of an owl! It blew my mind!

She explained that what she'd done was called the EMMETT Technique. I went home, researched it and booked myself on a one day course that she was running that weekend and the rest, as they say, is history. I went on to train in this magical technique, became an advanced practitioner, tutor and instructor and am now living my best life.

Before I began my training, Ross Emmett came over from Australia and gave a talk to physiotherapists at Kidderminster hospital. Bee got in touch and asked if I'd like to go. She told me that if anyone asked, I was a visiting physiotherapist and snuck me in to the talk. This is where I first met Ross, Lesley and Sue, all of whom would be my trainers, mentors and now friends.

For a short while, Bee ran a small EMMETT therapists practice group and we met at her home once a month. There was always plenty of tea, biscuits and laughter. When she retired, a few years ago, she recommended her clients come to me, many of whom have become regulars.

She had a wonderful talent, the biggest heart and also baked amazing cakes! Bee left us too soon and will be sorely missed, but her legacy lives on.
