Ever wondered which Gluteal muscle are working the hardest for you during glute rehab exercises 🤔❓Here is a great graft to show which glute is working the hardest during your banded side walks and spilt squats! (Collings et al, 2003)

👑 Which glute exercise reigns supreme?

📖 This awesome paper by Collings et al, (2023) compared and ranked gluteal muscle forces across 8 hip-focused exercises performed with and without external resistance

⚽️ Participants = 14 female football players (including local soccer, Australian football and rugby) between 18-32 years old

🦵🏼 Participants performed 8 hip-focused exercises with bodyweight (BW) and 12-RM loads

⚖️ Motion capture, ground reaction forces and EMG were used to estimate glute max, med and min muscle forces

📈 As shown in the graph, gluteal muscle forces were exercise specific and peak muscle forces increased by varying degrees when adding 12RM loads

💥 Note: only 10 of the 16 exercises are shown in this graph

Gastroc or Soleus injury? Or maybe something else…
It can be helpful to differentiate a Gastroc from Soleus injury in terms of prognosis and management. It’s also important to recognise that there are other sources of calf pain including neural and vascular.
Sometimes calf symptoms are from fatigue/ overload rather than a true tear. In such cases pain tends to resolve rapidly with rest and load management is key.
Regardless of the diagnosis, treatment should be based on individual presentation as time to return to sport varies considerably and doesn’t always correlate with the severity of the injury.

The Oakalls Physio Clinic - Our Story So Far...

Formerly founded in 2012 under the banner of “Bounceback Physio” a lot has happened over the past 8 years! Initially Caroline worked part-time in her private practice along-side her NHS role to “see a few patients in the evenings” However, within two years Caroline had left her NHS role to concentrate on her private practice. In that time the business had rapidly expanded and we are proud to say that this is mainly down to all our wonderful patients recommending and consultant referrals.

Due to the increased case-load Barbara joined us to take over the admin duties a few years ago and more recently we have moved to bigger premises to accommodate the expansion of the business with alot more space. Late 2019 we welcomed Physiotherapist Mandy to our team to help keep up with our increasing New patient referrals/caseload.

We decided that along-side our move, it was a good time to change the business name to the “Oakalls Physiotherapy Clinic” to reflect the move and connect with our local community.
