🧠 Are we misusing mental health terms?
Over the past few years, clinical labels like narcissist, OCD, gaslighting, and trauma have made their way into everyday conversations. But are we actually using them correctly?
❌ “I’m so OCD about my emails!”
❌ “Ugh, they’re such a narcissist.”
❌ “That was traumatic.”
There’s a fine line between using psychological language to help us understand ourselves and misusing it in a way that waters down real experiences. When we overuse or misuse these terms, we risk minimising genuine mental health struggles and, sometimes, even using them as a way to dismiss or criticise others.
In my latest blog, I explore:
💡 How psychobabble distorts meaningful conversations
💡 The impact of misused mental health language
💡 How we can use these terms more responsibly
It’s a thought-provoking one, and I’d love to hear your take on it. Do you think we’ve lost the true meaning of these words? Let me know in the comments! 💜
Are you the go-to person for everyone else? The one who’s always there to help, support, and listen?
It’s a wonderful gift to be strong for others, but when was the last time you were there for yourself?
If you’re feeling drained, overwhelmed, or like you’ve lost a sense of who you are, it’s time to check in with yourself.
Therapy can help you:
✨ Reclaim your energy and sense of self.
✨ Set healthy boundaries without guilt.
✨ Build a life where YOU feel supported too.
You don’t have to do it alone. Drop us a message to book a FREE 30-minute call with us today and let’s explore how we can support you.
Tag someone who might need this reminder. 💜
As we approach the end of 2024 many of us will be reflecting on what a year it’s been.
For some it may have been a defining year with a wedding, baby, new job or new home and for others it may have been a tough one with loss, health challenges or relationship break ups.
Whether it’s been one to remember or one you’d rather forget, one thing is for sure, you wouldn’t have got it through it without the love and support of some super special people on your life.
So take a moment to tag them, thank them and feel the gratitude.
Happy New Year!
