In Diabetes Week, we are advising all women who have had diabetes in pregnancy (gestational diabetes) to register for the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.
Half of all women who develop gestational diabetes will be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes within the next five years and they have a greater risk of developing the condition for the rest of their lives.

The entrance to the car park at the foot of the Maternity tower block / Neonatal Unit at Ipswich Hospital will be used as both the entrance and exit tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday.
The exit will be closed to allow some building work to take place. Signage will be in place to help drivers.
Apologies for the inconvenience.

Today ESNEFT launched antenatal hand expressing at both Ipswich and Colchester hospital. At your 36 week appointment you will be given a hand expressing pack by your midwife or doctor. We advise colostrum harvesting prior to your babies birth regardless of how you are wishing to feed. Even 1 ml of expressed breastmilk will provide protection for your baby that will benefit them throughout their whole life. Recent research has shown that 1ml of expressed breastmilk will protect your baby from blood pressure and heart problems later in life as well as protection from asthma. Please speak to your midwife or doctor to get your hand expressing pack. Here is a video from UK Babies on how to hand express. You can also access your free 10 hours of antenatal education from their website.
