🎉 Celebrating Mona’s 100th Birthday 🎉

Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in recently celebrated Mona’s 100th birthday in style.

On her special day, Mona enjoyed a trip to The Lamb Pub – a favourite spot of hers that’s owned by her son and holds many fond memories.

It was truly special to see her there once again, surrounded by friends, family and team members from the home. Everyone shared stories, laughter and moments from Mona’s incredible life.

One of the highlights was her joy at receiving a birthday card from the King – the smile on her face said it all!

She was full of joy dancing and singing with everyone.

What a fantastic celebration. Happy Birthday, Mona! 👏

🏃 Join the Great North Run for Charity 🏃‍♀️

We’re excited to share that three charity places are available for Barchester colleagues to take part in the Great North Run, which takes place on Sunday, 7th September.

The route stretches from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields and is one of the UK’s most iconic half marathons.

To secure a place, there is a £25 registration fee and a fundraising target of £300 in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

😍 44 Years Later, a Surprise Reunion at The Spires 😍

Residents and colleagues at The Spires Care Home in witnessed a heart-warming moment, when receptionist Zita discovered that Margaret, a resident at the home, was her former teacher from 44 years ago!

It turns out, Margaret played a pivotal role in Zita's life, igniting her lifelong passions for sewing and reading. Zita felt an instant connection to Margaret and everything suddenly fell into place.

Zita unearthed her old school reports, penned by Margaret herself - and an apron she made in Year 5. The look on Margaret’s face was priceless.

Margaret was absolutely overwhelmed, saying it completely made her day to know she’d had such a positive impact. "What a small world we live in!" she said. "And I’m so glad I did something right. A lot of water under the bridge since then!"

🍾1920s Day!🍾

On Friday, we had an incredible 1920s-themed day at the home, where all the staff dressed up as flappers, adding a vibrant touch to the atmosphere.

The residents couldn’t stop laughing all day as they soaked in the fun, lively energy that filled the space. It was such a hit that everyone was buzzing with excitement, and the place felt like a celebration.

In the afternoon, we served a variety of 1920s-themed cocktails, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The whole event brought so much joy, creating an unforgettable, upbeat atmosphere that we’ll all remember!

🐖Nixons Farm Shop🐖

This week, we visited Nixon’s Farm Shop in Cheadle for our outing, and it was a wonderful day.

We spent time exploring the farm and getting a close look at all the animals, which the residents really enjoyed. Afterward, we headed to the pub, where everyone relaxed and shared stories about their favorite parts of the day.

The sun shining down made everything even better, adding to the fun and making the outing even more memorable for all. Everyone left with smiles on their faces, grateful for such a lovely time.

Congratulations to Kat & Mia who have awarded Employee of the Month for February & March!

Mia Knott our fabulous Activities Co-ordinator was nominated by a family member for the month of February. She said that her mothers face lights up every time she sees Mia. Mia's passion for supporting Residents shines through in everything that she does.

Kat Wharmby was nominated for March Employee of the Month by her fellow team members and Residents. Kat is our very talented Kitchen Assistant who stepped in to help when our Chef was unable to come to work for three days. Her food was tasty, nutritious and well received by all – many thanks Kat. That's what we call teamwork!

⭐ Double Awards Finalist ⭐

Colleagues and residents at Woodside House Care Home in are overjoyed because their talented senior head chef, Kimberley Cooper, has reached the final of the Care Home Catering Awards 2025. She has been nominated in two categories, the ‘Above and Beyond Special Award’ category for all that she does for her residents over and above her day job and for the ‘Group Care Home Caterer of the Year’ award.

Organised by Care Home Catering Magazine, the Care Home Catering Awards recognise and reward best practice in delivering person-centred nutritional care.

A much-loved member of the team, Kim was nominated by her colleagues who are full of praise for her delicious meals and for her caring manner with the residents. Kim works hard to ensure her meals are exactly right for each of the residents, catering for all their different nutritional needs. She not only makes sure her dishes are packed with flavour but she also gives the residents a 5-star dining experience.

Kim shared: “I absolutely love my job, nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing our residents eating well and enjoying their food, it really is the best feeling in the world to know your meals are so appreciated.”

🇬🇷🛳️ Glenroyd Cruise Line 🇬🇷🛳️

Residents at Glenroyd Care Home in recently embarked on a special voyage with ‘Glenroyd Cruise Line’ to celebrate Greek Independence Day.

Captain Debbie warmly welcomed everyone aboard, ensuring passports and tickets were ready for the exciting Greek adventure.

The dedicated cruise team went above and beyond to provide an authentic experience. Residents received personalised passports, ship tickets and heartfelt welcome messages.

The journey continued with a delicious Greek-inspired feast, crafted by the home’s talented hospitality team. Residents enjoyed traditional dishes, including fresh Greek salad, chicken gyros and homemade baklava.

Ena, a resident at the home, shared: ‘I've visited Greece many times and Crete is my favourite island. Thank you for bringing back these lovely memories of my travels with my husband. It truly means a lot!’

We love supporting our residents in continuing their hobbies and daily lifestyle preferences that they've always enjoyed. This also means there are plenty of opportunities to join new activities too, and make friends along the way!

This week, some of our residents have been baking biscuits. After selecting their favourite recipe, we created simple vanilla biscuits which were enjoyed by all! We've also started making a list of our favourite things to bake, so hopefully we can tick them all off 🍪✅

Happy early Mother’s Day to all our beautiful ladies at Adlington!

At Adlington Manor, we wanted to make sure the ladies felt truly special for Mother’s Day, so we put together a lovely gift bags filled with thoughtful goodies.

Each bag included a charming handmade chick/bunny ready for Easter, kindly made by Trudie, adding a personal touch to the surprise.

The residents were absolutely thrilled with their little goodie bags, and it really made their day, bringing smiles and joy to everyone involved. It was a small gesture that meant so much and truly brighten the celebration.

🥖 Baguettes at the Ready 🇫🇷

Many of our care homes and hospitals celebrated French Language Day in style recently.

Residents and patients enjoyed a wonderful day filled with themed activities, French lessons, music and classic films.

Of course, no French celebration would be complete without delicious treats - croissants, macarons and a taste of French wine.

It was a fantastic opportunity to explore the French culture and reminisce about past travels.

🧁Cornflake Cakes🧁

With Mother's Day approaching, the ladies decided they wanted to do something special to express themselves, so they chose to bake a throwback favorite: cornflake cake.

The activities room buzzed with energy as everyone focused on perfecting the recipe, with lots of concentration and determination to make sure the cakes not only looked amazing but tasted just as delicious.

The activity brought joy to the residents, allowing them to tap into their creativity and skill while also feeling a sense of independence. It was a delightful experience, filled with smiles, laughter, and the sweet satisfaction of creating something truly special.

📺🎉 Beaufort Grange Features on The One Show 📺🎉

Residents and colleagues at Beaufort Grange Care Home in Cheswick Village, are celebrating their newfound fame after taking part in The Hoppiness Project, which was featured on BBC’s The One Show as part of its focus on dementia.

Ted Lasso’s Kola Bokinni, whose father lives with dementia, introduced the piece, sharing his own personal experiences alongside those of our residents.

Last year, Beaufort Grange teamed up with local group Alive Activities to take part in a brilliant gardening initiative. Residents grew hop vines in the care home garden, harvested the cones and contributed to the brewing process - before enjoying a well-earned pint at the end! 🍻

This fantastic project built on residents’ considerable knowledge of gardening, helped nurture friendships and links with community groups.

Raji Sunil, General Manager at Beaufort Grange said: “This was a fantastic initiative from start to finish, the residents really enjoyed looking after the hops, watching them grow and change. Their favourite part however had to be getting to drink the beer at the end of the project! It was so wonderful to see the residents featured on The One Show celebrating their achievements, that really was the cherry on the cake!”

🎤🎵 Come Sing! To Feel Good 🎤🎵

Residents and patients across the country had a fantastic time recently joining Dan Cooper, Vocal Coach from Biiah, for a brilliant virtual sing-along.

With the uplifting ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba and ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ by The Beatles, there was plenty of singing and dancing all around.

The session was a great success, bringing benefits for the mind, body and soul, and leaving everyone full of spring cheer.

🧁Bake Sale🧁

This Easter, we are excited to be hosting a bake sale at Adlington Manor to raise funds for our residents' upcoming summer trips.

The money we raise will go towards organising outings to wonderful places like Chester Zoo and the Donkey Sanctuary, providing our residents with the opportunity to explore new experiences and enjoy some fun adventures.

We would like to invite you to join us in supporting this cause by purchasing delicious homemade baked goods, all while contributing to making these trips possible for our community. Your generosity will help create lasting memories for our residents this summer!

🌞Poynton Pool🌞

The sun was shining brightly on Wednesday, and with the glorious weather, we decided to skip the dark pub and enjoy a lovely stroll around Poynton Pool, our local spot.

The residents were out in full force, enjoying the fresh air and taking in the sunshine. We even took the opportunity to feed the ducks, adding a touch of charm to the peaceful atmosphere.

This was the perfect way to spend the afternoon, soaking in the sun and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature.

🍽️Exciting News🍽️

We’re thrilled to share that our Regional Directors Clare and Melissa will be trading in their business suits for aprons and going head to head in a charity cook off to raise money for Barchesters Charitable Foundation.

The cook off is taking place on Wednesday 9th April, where two Regional Directors from each Barchester Division will team up to produce exquisite dishes to impress judges. The cook off will promote collaboration, creativity and a fun competition across the divisions, in addition to raising funds.

Each pair will create four dishes- a starter, main, dessert and afternoon tea. The competition will be judged by the Barchester Executive Board members who are seasoned foodies!

Barchester's charitable foundation helps connect vulnerable people and those living with disabilities to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.

🎤Musical Delights 🎤

Today, we had the pleasure of a lovely visit from Deborah from Musical Delights, and it truly brightened our day.

She sang beautiful, uplifting songs that filled the room with warmth and joy. The fun Irish music really gave the room a great atmoshpere and it was such a treat to have a singer back in our home after such an overdue wait. The lounge was filled with music and the energy she brought was nothing short of magical.

It was a much-needed reminder of how much music can light up a space and bring people together. Thank you so much Musical Delights for a lovely afternoon, we really did have the best time!

❗️Musical Delights Reminder❗️

We would like to kindly remind you that this Tuesday, Deborah from Musical Delights will be returning to visit us and will be performing some beautiful songs for our residents.

If you would like to join us, Deborahs performance will begin at 2:30pm and run until 3:30 pm. It promises to be a wonderful time and we would love to have you there to enjoy the music with us.

Please be aware that we will only be allowing family members into the lounge once all the residents are comfortably seated amd able to see the performance clearly, thank you.

Here at Adlington Manor we hold our amazing bingo bonanza. It is one of the residents favourite weekly activities, and one not to miss. Our bingo games provide a chance to catch up with friends, win a treat or two and support cognitive abilities.
It's a fun friendly game for all to enjoy! Afterwards we often enjoy a cuppa tea and biscuit together reminiscing and chatting away.

🪷JParkers Garden Centre🪷

With the lovely weather we’ve had this past week the residents had been reminiscing about the days when they used to visit garden centres frequently.

So today, we decided to take a trip to J.Parker’s Garden Centre. It was a lovely outing, where everyone had the chance to explore the wide variety of plants and garden supplies on display. After wandering around and soaking in the beauty of the gardens, we wrapped up the visit with a relaxing stop at the café, enjoying a coffee and a delicious slice of cake.

It was such a lovely way to spend the day and revisit those cherished memories.
