CONVERSATIONS AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Christmas and New Year can be such a lonely time for those with dementia, whilst all around celebrate the past year/ s those with dementia can feel so left out of the conversation, speaking from past experience and having dementia myself I am hoping this will not only help those in care homes, nursing homes etc but also in homes around the world who have loved ones living with dementia, quite simply its called
"CONVERSATIONS AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE"
When you decorate the tree for this years festivities if you place a few (As many as you want ) Gold stars on the tree with questions written on them such as
What was your first memory of Christmas presents?
Whats your favorite Christmas Carol (Not Vordaman LOL )
What was your favorite Christmas present ever?
What did you have for Christmas dinner?
Did you hang socks over the fireplace?
Did you have pillowcases at the bottom of your bed for presents?
ECT ECT ECT
Then when residents of those with dementia look at the tree its a conversation starter, or you can make it into an afternoon activity where you ask your residents to come up (If they can of course ) and read out some of the questions for some of them to answer .
Yes its a simple idea but wiill evoke so many long-lost memories from day gone by and bring much happiness to many.
This can also be done in Hospitals, dementia wards etc, lets show all that even though those with dementia may of forgotten some of their Christmas/ new years but
WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN THEM XX

Today we have been making tomato chutney in preparation for our Christmas Craft Fayre on Saturday 16th November. Residents cut (and taste tested) the ingredients, measured out the spices, and gave their honest opinion!
We were also very excited that we received five MP3 players from Purple Angel Music for those with Dementia charity today. We provided the song choices, and they provided the MP3 players! Our residents have thoroughly enjoyed listening to some golden oldies independently, and we are very grateful to the charity. How wonderful!

Hiya all, I just finished chatting to Lance Slatton via Zoom, host of All Home Care Matter USA, link below, and he has asked me to record a show for them, date to be arranged next month, to be shown in the USA, they also average half a million viewers!! WOW! No pressure then lol. Thankfully they have the same ethos as us as by working together we can do more, which has always been one of the mantras of the Purple Angel campaign. He wants me to show what we have done in the past, our hopes for the future and promises it will be a great show.

WHAT A YEAR IT,S TURNING OUT TO BE!!

Hi Norrms,

Sorry its taken a while to get back to you, Mum has been unwell but she is now better and has been really enjoying her MP3 player. Mum has Lewy Bodies Dementia, causing distressing hallucinations 24 hours a day. Her brain is mostly, very muddled so conversation is quite difficult but as soon as I put the headphones on her and pressed play, it was like a light switch had been turned on in her brain cutting through all the chaos. She sings along ( not always with words but the tune is there) and sometimes the arms go up and she dances in her chair. These small moments of light in the darkness fills my heart with joy and I'm sure gives her great pleasure. Thank you so so much for all you have done to give some joyous moments in the awfulness that dementia causes.
