Oh it’s heartbreaking that yet another brilliant service has had to close due to lack of financial support. Those monopolising funding or indeed holding back funds for vital services should be ashamed of themselves. The ‘system’ has to change. I’ve not yet found one person within Torbay’s local authority or council administration truly listening and wanting to back social care reform at grassroots. Change can happen now but fat cat egos and historical partnerships need to get out of the way and allow it to happen. This wonderful org was in Newton Abbott but I’m sure they faced very similar within the Teignbridge area if our experience of the Teignbridge VCSE sector is anything to go by.
Please, a call out to ANY councillor or local purse string holder who truly does want social care reform and happy to stand out from the political crowd, contact me and let’s discuss! 😞💕 LocalMotion Torbay Torbay Council Devon County Council
It is with a heavy heart that we share the café is facing closure next Friday due to persistent financial challenges. The pressures of the current economic climate, including the after-effects of the COVID pandemic, the ongoing energy crisis, and the rising cost of living, have made it increasingly difficult to provide the one-on-one trained support our participants deserve.
Unfortunately, disrupted funding from the DWP Access to Work program and an increase in Employer National Insurance contributions pose further challenges.
We have always been more than just a café; it’s been a nurturing community space where individuals with varying abilities could develop essential skills and gain valuable work experience. Since opening its doors in June 2020, the café has become a beacon of hope for many, employing 18 local people and has flourished into a warm and inclusive environment that our participants, staff, and visitors cherish 🧡
We want to celebrate all that our team has achieved
🌸The café has supported 115 adults in completing work experience placements with tailored one-on-one support. –
🌸We have helped seven students complete supported internships in collaboration with local specialist and mainstream colleges.
🌸One young person successfully completed a Supported Apprenticeship and secured paid employment outside our organisation.
🌸The café provided a crucial social outlet through our "Social Saturdays" for adults we have worked with, who might otherwise feel isolated after leaving our program
🌸43% of our paid staff within the café have disabilities, a much higher proportion than most employers
⭐️In January 2023, No Limits launched a Supported Employment Outreach service to assist adults in finding paid employment
Through our outreach program alone, we have supported 🌟19 adults in securing paid employment across Devon🌟!
Our successful Crowdfunder, which garnered immense support from the local community last year, helped us accomplish remarkable things allowed us to operate for a further nine months. The funds helped us cover core operational costs, and bridge gaps caused by DWP delays and contested awards. We were able to support a further 22 individuals through Work Experience programmes, as well as 6 individuals a week through long term placements.
As we navigate these final days of operation, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of our journey: the incredible participants, our dedicated staff, the local businesses and organisations that have stood by us, our funding partners, and the community that has embraced our mission. Your support has meant the world to us, and it’s painful to see such a vital resource come to an end.
