Do you need a colonoscopy? Have you been putting it off? Virtual colonoscopy may be right for you!

This Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, take charge of your health! Virtual colonoscopy is a more convenient, less invasive screening exam of the colon using low-dose CT to look for polyps before symptoms occur. In the video below, Dr. Karen Horton, Chair of the Johns Hopkins Department of Radiology, discusses the benefits of virtual colonoscopy, who may be a candidate and how to prepare.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and we are sharing the news that screening saves lives! Early detection is key, and now virtual colonoscopy makes screening quicker and easier than ever.

Virtual colonoscopy, or CT colonography, is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional colonoscopy. The exam scans the colon and re**um for polyps before symptoms occur. The scan can take less than 15 minutes and usually requires no pain medication or anesthesia.

Talk to your doctor to see if virtual colonoscopy may be right for you. To learn more, visit https://bit.ly/JHMIVirtualColonoscopy.

If you could take a fantastic voyage inside your blood vessels, what would you find? You may not have access to a microscopic submarine, but we have the next best thing! Cardiac computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a CT scan with contrast that captures detailed, 3D images inside of veins. Our specialty-trained technologists and subspeciality-trained cardiac radiologists work to capture and assess high-quality images that can be used to diagnose and treat heart conditions and other vascular issues. Ask your doctor about cardiac CTA and learn more at https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/imaging/exams-and-procedures/cardiac-imaging. Have you ever wanted to take a look inside your heart to see how it’s doing? Well, now is your chance! Cardiac calcium scoring is a CT scan that checks the amount of hard plaque in the heart vessels. Knowing your score can help you and your doctor assess your risk for heart disease and decide which, if any, treatment may be right for you.

Talk to your doctor to see if cardiac calcium scoring is right for you and, at JHMI, it is easy to pay your own way with an out-of-pocket fee of just $75, lower than other imaging centers. When scheduling, just tell us at the front desk if you want to process the exam through insurance or self-pay. To learn more about calcium scoring at JHMI, visit https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/imaging/exams-and-procedures/cardiac-imaging. Schedule your exam online through MyChart or by calling 443-997-7237.

“No one wants to have to have medical imaging done, but Johns Hopkins is a great place to do it. Got a chest x-ray, staff was friendly and helpful, lobby was nice, and I was in and out in under 20 minutes. I had a CT scan here before and they were very helpful as well. Bonus points for the good coffee at the cafe in the lobby.” – Recent Google review
