ACTION ALERT!
Right NOW, Congress is considering devastating cuts to Medicaid funding that would put mental health care at risk for millions. If these cuts happen, it would be more difficult for many people in Maryland to maintain access to mental health care. Tell Congress NO on cuts to Medicaid: https://nami.quorum.us/campaign/111192

ACTION ALERT!
It's time to talk "fail first" protocols! What are they? They're the policies some insurance companies use to require someone to "fail first" on a less expensive medication before agreeing to cover more costly but effective medicines. This stops patients from accessing adequate treatment for their mental health conditions in a timely manner.

Last year, our proposed bill opposing "fail first" protocols almost passed. Help us cross the finish line this year and prevent health insurance companies from denying people the medication they need, when they need it! Click the link below and use the pre-filled form to let your legislators know we need them to prevent certain state and private insurers, nonprofit health service plans, health maintenance organizations, and managed care organizations from using fail-first protocols! tinyurl.com/FailFirstAction

In a year with a significant state budget shortfall, we've included bill language that states if prohibiting fail first protocols makes our Medicaid costs exceed $2,000,000 in any fiscal year, the bill is considered null and void. This is important for thousands of Marylanders. Contact your senator today!

ADVOCACY ALERT!
It’s time to act! Let’s let our state legislators know that maintaining the state’s existing funding for mental health services is essential for the millions of Marylanders impacted by mental illness. Use the link below and take just one minute to tell them to:

· Fully fund the 988 Lifeline Trust Fund for FY26 and
· Oppose the proposed $90 million annual reduction to school mental health funding.

NAMI Maryland believes that easily accessible, comprehensive services and supports that address early intervention, recovery, and support should be available to all. Let’s advocate to protect this critical funding! Use the link below and take ONE MINUTE to let your legislators know you support these NAMI Maryland priorities.

Sometimes means taking a break to be a big kid, so go outside, get some fresh air and stretch your legs... and arms! Snow days can still be fun for adults, too.

Last week our co-founders had an amazing time at NAMI Maryland’s event, Inside My Head, a musical written and directed by Zak Sandler. Zak’s autobiographical performance explores his personal journey with bipolar disorder. What an amazing way to build awareness and reduce stigma around complex mental health diagnoses. We were so honored to attend and meet Zak in person!

What an incredible night! Thank you to everyone who came to this SOLD-OUT show "Inside My Head: The Musical," written and performed by Zak Sandler at the The Clarice's Gildenhorn Recital Hall at the University of Maryland, College Park. This groundbreaking, one-night-only production took each of us on a personal journey to examine the deepest, most vulnerable parts of ourselves-—the ones we may not want others to see—and revealed how we can move from shame and denial to self-love and acceptance.

As we observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump, we are reminded that we must work together in periods of transition to maintain the rights we all deserve as people impacted by mental illness, and always have hope for a better future for all.
