Last week our Independent Patio Home Residents were all on Cloud Nine while living it up at a special dinner at our clubhouse. Organized by our Director of Community Lifestyle, Kasie Brockman, the dinner featured a three-course meal skillfully prepared by our Director of Dining Services, Tim Bridges, and our Assistant Director of Dining Services, Dawn Rodgers. Opening things with a scrumptious crab cake, the meal then moved on to the main course: pan-fired shrimp and savory sausage on a bed of Parmesan infused grits, topped with asparagus and a creamy roux-based sauce. The medley of flavors was out of this world! To finish things up, Tim and Dawn dazzled the crowd with an in-dinning room cooking demonstration were they prepared Bananas Foster table side!

Willows at Springhurst Resident, Coach Tom

With millions around the world having just watched the BIG GAME, we thought it appropriate to shine the spotlight on another of our fantastic residents, our very own real life NFL Coach, Tom B! Able to flash a thousand watt smile quicker than Creed Humphrey can snap the ball to Patrick Mahomes, Coach Tom lights up every room he enters.

Coach Tom was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he would graduate from Cathedral High School in 1952. After graduating from the College of the Holy Cross in 1956, it was back in Springfield where, while he was walking to his parish, the lovely Elaine caught his eye. Being a smart man, Tom decided to introduce himself and the couple soon began dating. A year later, the pair were married.

After he and Elaine married, Tom would go on to serve in the US Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey for roughly two years. It was there, while serving as an Administrative NCO, that Tom began helping to coach the base football team. After his time in the Army, Tom continued coaching football, specializing in the offensive line. Starting out with coaching high school teams, he soon reached the college level, coaching at Williams College, Columbia University, and the US Naval Academy. His success as a college football coach paved the way for Tom to eventually make it to the big time, beginning his NFL coaching career! Spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs, NY Giants, and the St. Louis / Phoenix Cardinals, Tom would eventually find his biggest success with the Buffalo Bills. While Tom was with the Bills, the team won four consecutive AFC championships! Unfortunately, Tom and the rest of the team never got to take home any Super Bowl rings, but we have to say, their accomplishments are still beyond impressive. They played in FOUR CONSECUTIVE SUPER BOWLS! As the final portion of his career with the Buffalo Bills culminated, Tom served as their Offensive Coordinator. As we said, impressive.

Something that is perhaps even more impressive than his coaching career is the wonderful family that Tom and Elaine started and nurtured. Their own little “team” began with the couple welcoming five children, four sons and one daughter, into their lives. They would eventually grow their ranks to include three daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. That’s quite the impressive team that you’ve drafted, Coach!

When we asked Tom’s family what their favorite part of him living here at the Willows at Springhurst is, they told us, “Tom is deeply grateful for the security he feels in the care of the Willows staff. His transition to memory care last fall was somewhat unexpected, but his choice. He comments frequently how lucky he is to be living there.” We thank his family for the kind words and we want them to know how much we appreciate them trusting us with his care. We are proud to be the latest team in a long line of teams standing behind such an amazing coach. Thank you for your service and thank you for sharing your story with us, Coach Tom!

Today, we're celebrating one of our incredible Licensed Practical Nurses, Neicey! Neicey has been with The Willows at Springhurst for over 2 amazing years. As an LPN at The Willows at Springhurst, Neicey plays a vital role in providing compassionate care to our residents, ensuring their health and well-being every day. With her dedication, kindness, and expertise, Neicey goes above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families. Whether it's offering a comforting smile, administering care with precision, or being a supportive team member, she exemplifies what it means to be a healthcare hero.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her children. At The Willows at Springhurst, she is known for her love of singing and bringing joy to residents. When asked what she loves most about working at The Willows at Springhurst, she shared: "I cherish the opportunity to care for the residents and value the strong bond I have with my colleagues". Her dedication and enthusiasm can be seen throughout the building, making The Willows at Springhurst a truly wonderful place to work.
