The Trailblaze Challenge is a 23.4 mile one -day hike to raise funds for Make A Wish Maine. Eye Walk for Wishes raised over 20k to help grant wishes for Maine kids facing critical illness. The team included 3 EMG employees (Carl Bradbury, Lori Thompson and Johanna Dresser) and two of their friends and family. September is Healthy Aging month. Here are some tips to keep your eyes healthy:
• See your optometrist or ophthalmologist as recommended
• Protect your eyes from sunlight by wearing sunglasses that block ultraviolet (UV) radiation and a hat with a wide brim when you are outside.
• Stop smoking.
• Make smart food choices.
• Be physically active and maintain a healthy weight.
• Maintain normal blood pressure.
• Manage diabetes (if you have it).
• If you spend a lot of time at the computer or focused on one thing, take a break every 20 minutes to look about 20 feet away for 20 seconds to prevent eye strain.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. John Lippincott has joined the EMG family to round out the retina team! Dr. Lippincott is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained specialist in medical and surgical management of diseases of the retina and vitreous. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed medical internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He then completed vitreoretinal medical and surgical fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Lippincott is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. June is Cataract Awareness Month: Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness in the US. Cataract Surgery is also one of the most commonly performed surgeries and here at EMG we help thousands of individuals a year reclaim their vision with state of the art implantable lenses.

PPC is typically a congenital type of cataract characterized by a round, opaque, discoid mass of distorted lens fibers in the central posterior part of the natural lens. While typically an inherited trait, these can develop spontaneously.
