One of the benefits to children who have worked with me is that they have learned how to learn.
I provide them with particularly difficult and daunting motor activities. Often their initial response is to cry, try to get away, change the subject… I insist, saying “when you are finished crying, we are going to do this”. After the first few times, the child’s body begins to understand the movements.
As the child progresses, I remind them, “Remember when this was hard for you? Now it is getting to be easy.”
