One of the benefits to children who have worked with me is that they have learned how to learn.
I provide them with particularly difficult and daunting motor activities. Often their initial response is to cry, try to get away, change the subject… I insist, saying “when you are finished crying, we are going to do this”. After the first few times, the child’s body begins to understand the movements.
As the child progresses, I remind them, “Remember when this was hard for you? Now it is getting to be easy.”
Thus, the process of learning…

Closing Mast Clinic is so difficult. I have built this beautiful environment for infants and toddlers and I am having such difficulty with the idea of dismantling it. I have created a calm, cozy, safe space with everything designed to positively make them work hard and move forward in their motor development and self-confidence. I have developed a way to model interpersonal relationship between adult and little one that parents can learn from without me having to tell them what i am doing. and I will be leaving it all behind. Covid started a downhill financial slide and it never recovered. Illnesses are so much worse for the little ones after having been quarantined from one another. I have so many cancellations due to illness that it is unsustainable for me to continue to pay for the overhead this clinic requires. I am trying hard to not let it depress me. I have until the end of June to clear everything out. one step at a time.

It is with great difficulty that I announce that Mast Clinic will close May 31 after 37 years. I have loved and learned from every mini-human who has come my way.

After July 1, I intend to continue to work with infants and will announce location as soon as possible. I have ceased contracts with all insurance companies; services will be via private pay.

If your child has been a patient at Mast Clinic and you wish to get copes of your child's Protected Health Information/Physical Therapy Reports, a HIPAA authorization form is available on our website mastclinic.com

I love it when tattooed, pierced, tough looking parents come to Mast Clinic with their mini-humans. They melt in the presence of their child. I melt to watch them.

Toddlers like to put pegs in the holes at the top of the slide They then slide down and crawl under the slide structure to retrieve the pegs. Many of the little ones ask me to give themWhen asking me for pegs to use on the slide, "pigs" rather than "pegs".
A Mast Clinic patient who is especially fond of this activity has only a few words and his words span two languages. I often do not understand his words because he is a toddler and because he sometimes uses words from the language that is not English.
Asking for pegs to use when he climbs up to the slide platform, rather than say "peg" or "pig", he make sounds like a pig. That, I understand!
