David McCormick is a genealogist who has lived all his life in Cobbs Creek, WV. He enjoys: pre-Columbian history, local, county, state and US history. He has three children: David "Corncob", LeAnn, and Lana; three grandchildren: Elijah McCormick, Cody and Hannah Bonnett. The son of Dillard McCormick and his wife Blanch Mortana Griffith. He had two siblings: Linda Dunlap and Michael McCormick. A member of Boone County (WV) Genealogical Society.

The tree stump pictured below may seem unassuming but around 150 years ago, 12 men were hanged from a branch on it. George Tackett operated a stage station that stood just off screen, which was built in the early 1860s, and would have operated for a few decades. Tackett ran the station in the early years and acted as a de facto sheriff in the surrounding area, hence all the hangings. This is alleged to have been the tree from which he did it, after which he would use his hatchet to chop a notch into the tree to count another hanging. When being interviewed in later years, Tackett was asked if the stories were true, and he pointed to his rifle and stated “I once killed 3 men before breakfast.” Also, and kind of randomly, Bob Barker from “The Price is Right” is/was a descendent of George Tackett.
