Hey did you know that Cheddar Cheese gets it's name from Cheddar, England where it originates from? Did you know Brie Cheese has been made since the 8th century? Or that Monterey Jack cheese was created here in America by Franciscan Monks? The residents learned all that and more today while enjoying delicious snacks and cider served to them by our fantastic activities team!

Thank goodness it's almost Friday because we're going to need a rest after the excitement of this week! For the past 3 days we've been moving and grooving thanks to the beautiful weather we've had! Everybody had an impromptu party outside in the sunshine, then Paty Masson came in and got our hearts racing with her wonderful dancing & yoga session! And just when we felt like we couldn't move anymore Ro Cube came through and pulled everybody right back on the dance floor with his piano and vocal skills. Needless to say we're tired, and need a rest, but not before our very first meeting of our new Foodie Club tomorrow with a Cider & Cheese tasting!

Smooth Entertainment was here today and they were, well entertaining, as always! DJ Smooth & DJ Fresh always manage to make Bingo into a party, and thanks to them everyone had a fantastic time!

It's been a tiring day over here at the Charleston with all the dancing that's been going on! Our morning started with the ever wonderful Jereen Donaldson leading everybody in dance therapy, then this afternoon the talented Jimi Simon came and performed the greatest hits throughout the years! After all the excitement of the day we had to take some time to unwind with a nice relaxing collage before dinner.

We would like to send a huge thank you to "A Family Affair" for coming this past Friday and volunteering their time to come perform their beautiful and moving mime show for the last night of Black History Month! It was a wonderful performance and the residents really learned a lot and had a great time!

Yesterday Evening, Chef David and his staff (spearheaded by Jenni) prepared our residents a fresh Curry Chicken w/ Saffron Basmati Rice & Sautéed String Beans. The Curry paste was traditionally prepared using the fundamentals garlic, lemon grass, shallots, red chili peppers and ginger. 👨🏻‍🍳👩🏼‍🍳😋🐓🍚🌶🫚🧄🧅🥕🥔

The best way to stay warm when the weather drops to freezing is to stay active, and that's what we've been doing these extremely cold last few days! We've done everything from going out for a hearty lunch at Golden Corral, to snuggling up to some furry friends with Pets on Wheels, and moving our bodies with our friend Jereen! So while the weather may have been blistering outside, it's felt like a sauna in the Charleston!

Happy Valentine's Day from everybody at the Charleston! In celebration of bringing people together we held our first ever Heart 2 Heart Dance and invited the wonderful residents from Complete Care in La Plata to come join us! We had a wonderful time with our neighbors from down the road; enjoying fun music from the fantastic DJ Kennections, a painting craft from the awesome Kaila's Gift, and fabulous gift bags from Refuge Living Sanctuary International Church! We would like to extend a huge thank you to those lovely people, as well as the Senior Helpers of Southern Maryland for lending a hand in before and during the dance, and the families for coming out and enjoying the party with us!
