💜 Curious about what happens at a pessary fitting at FitRight? 💜

At FitRight HQ in Applecross, our experienced team including Jess Vanson, Agner Hazewinkel, Zoe Mortemore and myself (Taryn) all provide va**nal pessary fittings.

Your journey starts with an initial assessment, where we do a thorough examination to see if a pessary is right for you, as it’s not suitable for everyone. We’ll also look at which type and size may suit your body, and give you all the information you need, including the benefits and considerations, so you can make an informed decision.

If you decide to go ahead, your fitting happens at a follow up appointment after clearance from your GP or gynaecologist. We may trial a few options to find the pessary that best supports your anatomy, prolapse type and symptom relief.

Think this could be right for you? 💜
Head to the link in our bio or call (08) 6444 7994 to book your initial assessment with one of our pelvic health physios.

When most people think of a dietitian, weight loss is usually the first thing that comes to mind. But that’s only a small part of the story.

We work with women through so many different seasons of life — from preconception and pregnancy to postpartum, perimenopause and menopause — times when things can feel like they’re constantly shifting.

And with those changes often comes frustration. Energy feels different. Symptoms show up. Body composition changes. And more often than not, there’s a lack of clear, practical guidance on what to actually do next.

Before our resident dietitian Maddi joined the team, what many of our clients were missing wasn’t more rules or restriction — it was personalised, evidence-based support that looks at the bigger picture, not just the number on the scale.

We asked Maddi to share some of the key reasons women might see a dietitian that have nothing to do with weight loss.

SWIPE to learn more - because you don’t just need a weight-related goal to benefit from seeing a dietitian. If you’re navigating gut issues, hormonal changes, low energy, or simply want clear, practical advice — Maddi is here to support you.

Want to book with Maddi? She consults in person at our Applecross clinic on Mondays and Tuesday afternoons.

💜Sharing some team successes at FitRight💜

Jess and I often pinch ourselves at how lucky we are to have our wonderful team of women's health practitioners! We just seem to have found the best pelvic health physios, musculoskeletal physios, women's health GP's and dietitian in Perth…! 🥳 So I thought I'd share with our online community some recent successes within our physio team:

💜One of our admin superstars Claire told me recently that a new patient who saw one of our principal physios Cat, came out of that consultation saying she'd never before felt so seen and heard 🥰

💜One of our senior physios Agner has travelled to a mine site twice recently to do some presentations to the staff on women's health and she got fantastic feedback about how she created and adapted the presentation to suit the cohort (if you work for an organisation that would benefit from having a pelvic health (women's health) physio present- DM us and we'll see what we can do!)

💜Another of our senior women's health physios Emma, has been asked back for the second year in a row to do a talk on pelvic health and perimenopause for a series presented by the Vic Park library (after fabulous feedback last year!)

💜Zoe, our newest physio, recently put her hand up to cover a number of our group exercise classes in her first couple of weeks and I was personally told by a participant how fantastic she was!

💜Clinical Lead Physio Jess V joined me for some Sunday weekend training last week - learning all about updated research on female sexual dysfunction- thanks to Jess for giving up her Sunday evening to upskill with me!

I'm so proud that this is our physio team 🥰

💜 How is a Vaginal Prolapse Treated? 💜

If you’ve been diagnosed with a prolapse, it’s normal to feel unsure about what comes next. At FitRight HQ Applecross, we often explain that there are a few main management options:

Conservative Management – Lifestyle changes, pelvic floor muscle training, getting globally strong, and learning how to ‘pressure manage’ with breathing and core activation. Small, consistent changes can make a big difference especially with smaller prolapses.

Vaginal Pessary Management – A pessary is a device fitted into the va**na to support pr*****ed walls or the uterus. When combined with conservative management, it can relieve symptoms and help women feel more comfortable day-to-day.

Surgical Repair – Surgery can repair the va**nal walls or elevate/remove the uterus if needed.

💜 What to Expect from a Pessary Fitting:

Initial assessment to check if a pessary is suitable (it is not for everyone)
Choosing the best type and size for your anatomy and prolapse type
Education about pros, cons, and care so you can make an informed choice
Fitting at a follow-up appointment (sometimes trying multiple types to find the best fit)

At FitRight HQ, multiple team members fit va**nal pessaries, including me (Taryn Watson), Jess Vanson, Agner Hazewinkel, and Zoe Mortemore.

Why am I so excited about this and spreading education on pessaries and prolapse? 💜
It’s been almost a decade since I first learned pessary fitting. Back then, there were very few pelvic health physiotherapists in Perth (or even Australia!) who could do this. I started with ring and cube pessaries, and over the years, I’ve been lucky to learn from amazing colleagues like FitRight's Jess V, who fits many other types. Together, we make sure every woman has the best options and support for them.

I’ve also written blogs to explain more on this topic if you're interested (link in bio to have a read- or visit our FitRight website direct):

💜 What to Expect from Your Appointment with Maddi, Our Dietitian 💜

Maddi has been part of the team at FitRight Applecross HQ for a couple of weeks now and I excitedly booked an appointment with her myself… not because anything was wrong, but because I wanted to be proactive about my health as I head into my 40s! 🎉

So many questions I had in my head:
🤷🏻‍♀️ Am I getting anywhere near the dietary requirements for protein for my age?
🤷🏻‍♀️ Am I eating in a way that promotes optimal gut health?
🤷🏻‍♀️ Are there any changes I can make to my diet to minimise experiencing premenopausal symptoms in the future?

During my 50-minute appointment, Maddi really took the time to understand me — my medical history, bladder/bowel health, exercise habits, and most importantly, my goals. We went through my eating habits in detail, calculated how much protein and key nutrients I’m actually getting, and decided on some achievable changes for this week, with a plan for follow-up in 3 weeks.

She even sent me a super helpful summary afterwards, with practical tips and some delicious recipes to help me reach my goals — all while focusing on food first, and supplementation only if needed.

✨ My Nutritional Goals with Maddi:

💜Increase anti-inflammatory foods, especially oily fish
💜Support gut health as I approach perimenopause
💜Optimise protein for body composition and energy
💜Supplement only where diet can’t cover needs

While not everyone books a proactive consult like mine, Maddi also works with women managing endometriosis, chronic constipation, inflammatory disease, weight management, and eating disorders. I can’t stress enough how valuable it feels to have a dietitian supporting women, who has extra training in women's health and takes an evidence-based holistic approach.

💜 If you’re thinking about taking a proactive step for your health and overall wellbeing, Maddi’s here to help you make sustainable changes that really make a difference! 💜 Link in bio to book or direct link is here: https://fitrightwomenshealth.au/dietitian/
