Something extraordinary happened in the lead up to this Christmas!

Thanks to our incredible community, we delivered our biggest Christmas appeal yet, sending hope to women, children and families who need it most.

We’re proud to have delivered:
🎁Gifts to 240 vulnerable children in the Luma community. A huge shout out to HWLE Lawyers Perth Statutory Insurance Team for their generous contribution and the volunteers who wrapped them all!
🎁 50 care packages donated to vulnerable women at Luma, thanks to Women in Surveying & Spatial Sciences WA.
🎁 $3,500 worth of grocery vouchers provided to Perth families struggling with the cost of living thanks to Christmas Appeal donations.
🎁 7 massive hampers filled with groceries and living essentials gifted to local families in hardship donated by The Plant at Banksia Grove
🎁 100 beautifully knitted handmade items to new mothers and families made with love by City of South Perth Knitting Group
🎁 100 meal vouchers for those with no place to go on Christmas day with thanks to Mission Australia.

Our goal was to make spirits bright for vulnerable, disadvantaged and at risk children and families this Christmas. We will never forget seeing one of our young clients opening her present with wide eyes and an infectious giggle. Seeing the impact of our Christmas Appeal in real time made our hearts full!

To our partners, supporters, and the silent donators who've chosen to remain anonymous – thank you. You've reminded families in our community that they're not alone, and that kindness still exists in abundance. To the team at Luma who have been coordinating, delivering and supporting the appeal behind the scenes – we see you and thank you too.

Shout out to our fundraising lead, Krista, for making this happen. If you're interested in supporting Luma through donations, fundraising or events, reach out to krista@luma.org.au.

This is what community looks like.

📢 We still need your help to support 200 families!

This year, we’ve already raised an amazing $4,500 thanks to the generosity of so many people. However, we still have families within the Luma community who are struggling to put food on the table. We are seeking final donations to support them with the cost of living this Christmas.

Around 840 million women have experienced partner or sexual violence in their lifetime, according to a new report from the World Health Organisation.

There has sadly only been a tiny annual decline of 0.2 per cent over two decades.

Change is needed. Action is overdue. Every girl and women deserves to be safe, heard and respected.

Thank you to everyone standing with survivors and demanding change. 🧡

When we speak up against abuse, harassment, sexism and unhealthy attitudes (even the very early signs) we start to change the culture that allows family and domestic violence to grow.

These acts are often ignored, dismissed or silenced, way too often. And they're present in our homes, communities, workplaces and everyday lives.

Every time we challenge harmful attitudes, we make space for safety, respect, and equality to take root, and that's how we gradually shift culture.

To everyone raising their voice, supporting survivors and standing up for what’s right – thank you for doing the work. 🧡

Many people find themselves in relationships where care turns into control, or affection slowly becomes fear. It doesn’t happen overnight — and it’s never your fault.

Understanding what unhealthy love looks is the start of getting our power back, so we can recognise harm, reach out for help, and slowly, safely take steps forward. Everyone deserves love that's safe, and healthy.

If you're experiencing any red flags mentioned, visit 1800RESPECT.org.au for information and support. 🧡

Violence against women is one of the most persistent human rights crises worldwide.

And when faced with a challenge of this scale, to believe and support a survivor - whether it’s your friend, sister, mum, aunty, child or coworker - may sound simple and intuitive.

Not being believed is a very real fear for many women experiencing violence and abuse, because so often women are not believed. They are often questioned, dismissed and silenced.

Thank you to everyone holding space for survivors so they can share their story, start to heal and break the cycle. 🧡

Creating healthy relationships with the special people in your life is a beautiful (and powerful) way to take a stand against violence towards women. And that involves being able to see the green flags. 💚

Paying attention to what healthy love looks like isn’t just good for us – it strengthens our homes and communities.

When we celebrate relationships built on trust, communication, equality, and empathy – we change narratives, break cycles and change the culture that allows harm to begin.

Violence against women is one of the most persistent human rights crises in the world.

We’ve lost 62 women this year, (recorded by Sherele Moody, at The RED HEART Campaign, who documents the deaths and tells their stories).

In the face of this monstrous challenge – listening to survivors (like, really listening) and offering support without judgement seems simple. It seems intuitive. But it’s less common than you may think, and goes further than many people can imagine.

When someone opens up about abuse and they’re met with empathy – we break cycles and create a ripple effect across our homes and communities.

Thank you to everyone doing the work, so girls and women can be safe, heard and respected – everywhere. 🧡
