Anxiety is something so many people carry quietly and often feel they have to manage alone.

In Australia anxiety is actually the most common mental health condition. Around 1 in 4 people will experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their life, and in any given year over 3 million Australians are living with anxiety.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is the bodies natural stress response. It can show up as constant worry, racing thoughts, a tight chest, trouble sleeping, irritability, or that feeling that your nervous system just won’t switch off. It’s your mind and body staying on high alert for longer than it should.

Over the years I’ve learnt that while there’s no single solution, supporting the nervous system naturally can make a beautiful difference alongside other support.

One of the things I personally turn to is aromatherapy. The roller I’m holding here is made with a blend of 100% pure essential oils chosen specifically to support emotional calm.

💜 Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) Research shows this oil can help lower blood pressure and promote relaxation, helping the body shift away from the stress response.
💜 Frankincense (Boswellia serrata) Often used in mindfulness and meditation practices, it’s known for its grounding aroma and its ability to help slow breathing and encourage a sense of stillness.
💜 Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) Traditionally used for calming the nervous system, studies suggest it may help reduce feelings of anxiety and promote relaxation.

When inhaled the aromatic molecules travel directly to the limbic system which is the part of the brain that influences emotions, mood and memory. That’s why aromas can have such a powerful effect on how we feel.

For me rolling this onto my wrists, behind my ears, on my abdomen, and chest while taking a slow breath has become a small pause in the day, a reminder to soften my shoulders, breathe deeply, and come back to calm. This can also be rolled on the bottom off your feet at night.

The wellness shop is located at the E Shed Markets Victoria Quay Fremantle Western Australia and is opened Friday, Saturday, Sunday and selected Public Holidays 9am to 5pm.

Outside of these hours Sue works from home making the wellness range and supporting clients through aromatherapy consultations and sleep coaching.

💤 Did you know sleep problems are far more common than most people realise 🤔

In Australia alone

🤔 Almost 4 in every 10 adults experience some form of sleep difficulty
🤔 Around 6% of adults experience excessive daytime sleepiness
🤔 And about 12% of adults sleep less than 5 hours a night

These figures come from Australia’s most widely referenced national sleep surveys and reports and while large scale data hasn’t been updated recently, many experts believe sleep issues have increased, not improved, in recent years.

😴 That’s nearly half the adult population regularly struggling with sleep.

When we look at FIFO and shift workers, the picture can be even more challenging.
While exact numbers aren’t recorded, research shows that working 12-hour shifts, long rosters, and irregular schedules can result in as little as 5 hours of sleep per night for many workers.

Less sleep doesn’t just mean feeling tired, it also affects many other things including 👇

Today at the wellness shop in between helping people has been about making some very exciting decisions.

Its been 3.3 years since I've been in this space and one of the reasons moving to the bigger space was so I could take the next step with my passion.

The table I'm standing next to with the beautiful sunflowers on was added so I can use it to do something exciting.

That something exciting is to begin holding workshops in the wellness space. Workshops like a Cacao Ceremony, and a make your own wellness blend workshop.

Today is a brand new day.

Whatever happened this week

the stress, the tension, the conversation that didn’t sit right, the broken sleep, it doesn’t have to interrupt today.

Our nervous system is beautifully responsive.
It responds to perceived stress however it also responds to safety.

The good news?

We can actively create moments of safety.

A slow intentional breath.
Natural light on your face.
A calming aroma in the room.
Gentle movement.
Stepping outside for fresh air.

These aren’t just ideas.

Research shows that slow breathing can reduce sympathetic (stress) activity and increase parasympathetic (calming) tone.

Pleasant arom exposure has been shown to support relaxation and mood.
Light and movement help regulate our internal body clock and energy.
Small resets influence the body in real, measurable ways.

So today, instead of replaying the week, pause.
Inhale slowly.
Exhale fully.
Let that poo poo go (professionally speaking 😉).

Today is an opportunity to reset your nervous system, not relive your stress.
