For the patients that have seen and asked the Chiropractic what this little instrument is sometimes used for at your appointment.

ACTIVATOR
The activator is a small handheld spring-loaded instrument which allows the chiropractor to deliver a small measured impulse to the spine. Because the device is mobile the practitioner is able to accurately control the direction of any mobilization.
Laboratory studies found the instrument gave off no more than 0.3 J of kinetic energy in a 3-millisecond pulse. The aim is to produce enough force to move the vertebrae but not enough to cause injury.
The Activator is very helpful when chiropractors are treating children, the elderly, patients in acute pain and anyone who would prefer another treatment option than the chiropractic adjustment.
There are many ways to adjust the spine. Either the Chiropractor’s hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief and highly-accurate thrust. Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow and constant pressure.
After years of training and clinical experience, each Chiropractic Doctor becomes highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting approaches.

NECK PAIN
The neck is a very complex and intricate structure.
Not only does it need to be highly mobile and flexible, at the time it needs to be stable and strong enough to support the head. Daily stressors such as driving, office work, computer work, sustained postural stress, use of a mobile phone as well as physical activity and sport all amplify the daily demands that are placed on the neck. Is it little wonder that neck pain is one of the most common presenting complaints that chiropractors treat.

DRY NEEDLING
Dry needling is a procedure in which a solid filament needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point. A myofascial trigger point consists of multiple contractions or knots, which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle. Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems.
Dry needling of the muscles has a profound effect on reducing the pain mechanisms that are relayed by the nervous system.

WHAT TYPES OF PROBLEMS CAN BE TREATED WITH DRY NEEDLING?
Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Dry needling of the muscles has a profound effect on reducing the pain mechanisms that are relayed by the nervous system. Muscle problems are thought to be a contributing factor to many conditions. Such conditions include, but are not limited to neck, back, shoulder, arm pain (tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, golfer’s elbow), migraine and tension-type headaches, buttock pain and leg pain (sciatica, hamstring strains, calf tightness/spasms).
HOW DOES DRY NEEDLING WORK?
Dry needling targets trigger points in muscles. A trigger point is a hypersensitive region within a muscle (like those tender ‘knots’ or lumps that you can feel when you are stressed). When the needle is inserted into the trigger point, it acts to ‘jump start’ the muscle and its nerve supply. This usually results in a reflexive relaxation of the muscle causing pain relief and tissue lengthening.

Chiropractic tips for back to school backpacks.

Wearing the Backpack
• Use Both Straps: Always wear with both shoulder straps to distribute weight evenly.
• Tighten Straps: Adjust straps so the bag sits high and close to the back, not dragging below the waist.
• Secure Clips: Fasten sternum (chest) and waist straps to transfer weight to hips, not shoulders.
• Limit Time: Avoid wearing for more than 30 minutes at a time if possible.
Backpack Selection
• Sturdy & Ergonomic: Choose a bag with wide, padded shoulder straps, multiple compartments, and built-in lumbar support.
• Size: No wider than the child’s chest.
Packing Tips
• Weight: Aim for 10-15% of the child’s body weight (e.g., 3kg for a 30kg child).
• Placement: Heavy items (books, laptops) go at the bottom, closest to the spine, in fully zipped compartments.
• Essentials Only: Use lockers for large items and only carry what’s needed for the day.
Classroom Habits (Beyond the Bag)
• Good Posture: Sit upright with feet flat on the floor and shoulders relaxed.
• Breaks: Take breaks from sitting and stretching.

Chiropractic Care For Shoulder Pain
Everyone is stuck with the question: should I see a chiropractor for shoulder pain all the time. However, studies reveal that chiropractic care for shoulder pain can be a quite helpful and effective way to address different conditions.
Your chiropractor focuses on the skeleton and how it aligns to help move the body through its daily tasks. Your chiropractor can help alleviate pain caused by injury or imbalance to your skeleton by making several adjustments for overall alignment and correcting an acute condition.
Chiropractic care has become an effective alternative to invasive treatments of shoulder pain.
Moreover, it has no side effects and does not interact negatively with other therapies. The best part about chiropractors is finding the root cause of the condition.

Major Chiropractic Techniques For Shoulder Pain
During your treatment, your chiropractor for shoulder pain will make a treatment plan that may consist of hands-on adjustments or adjustments using special tools.
