Well, breaking the holiday vacation vibe to jump on and celebrate our bodies. The bodies of all shapes and sizes and their ability to birth babies through the va**na. My dearest baby cousin, yesterday told me her birth story. Amidst comments that made my blood boil when she was told by a midwife in Scotland that despite a “higher than desired BMI, she HIDES IT WELL?” and was therefore a higher risk pregnancy than if her BMI was less…….this mum to be ROCKED her birth. Letting labour begin on its own, a few days after the “estimated due date” labouring at home, finding comfort whilst sitting on a gym ball - A LOT - she was admitted to birth suite with not long to go and birthed her beautiful daughter just the way nature intended her to. Gosh I want to scream this story from the rooftops. Not because she was LUCKY or that it was by chance - but because this is a story of a mother to be who knew her body and didn’t see herself in any other way than the woman who had birthed before her in her family tree. Let’s push for women to feel confident that we can expect to do well in this journey, no matter what shapes and sizes we arrive to pregnancy in. 👊🏼
