Happy Friday and Happy Australia Day Everyone! 🇦🇺 we have a lot to celebrate in this wonderful country we live in!

It’s been a while between posts and as I reflect on 2023 and the new energy of 2024 I wholeheartedly welcome this new year and chapter in life…and I hope you do too!

Last year was probably the busiest year I’ve experienced on a work level and as a result of establishing my business and ongoing Employee Assistance Program work as well as some new ADventures I’ve had to make the decision to now close my books in relation to private practice, which means I’ll continue to welcome back clients I have worked with, however won’t be taking on any new referrals.

Thanks to everyone who has recommended my services, viewed my posts and supported me, means a lot!

Wishing you all the best and may you follow the path of intuition and wisdom 🙏😇

Happy Friday Everyone!
For the first time this year I’m hanging up my ‘Out of Office’ sign and taking a couple of weeks off to feel the sun in my face and sand between my toes ☀️☄️🌊

Before I do that I’ll leave you with 4 (my lucky number) of my favourite phrases/metaphors- They are powerful ways to reflect a big situation in just a few words and they’re something we can always pull out from the pocket of our mind when we catch ourselves engaging in an old pattern of behavior that doesn’t serve us anymore ☺️

‘Not my circus/Not my monkey’ - when others are trying to pull us and involve us into drama that doesn’t concern us and we need to protect ourselves.

‘You can only fix what you’ve broken’ - you can only fix/repair relationships and systems you’ve created and done some damage to yourself.
You can never fix a relationship between your parents/friends etc, nor can you fix a system at work that you didn’t create- but you can make a contribution if you like.

‘It’s time to take the steering wheel’ - if you’ve surrendered too much control of your life to others and as a result you’re not heading where you want to in life.

‘You can lead a lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink’ - for when we’ve done what we can and what’s in our control and we need to let it go.

💡🙏😇🩷

Happy Friday Everyone!

This week’s post is on the importance of good role models.
Recently I’ve been working with a lot of young people and in conversations with parents they advise that their child has come home from a session with me and I’ve repeated the same things that they’ve tried to enforce but they seemed to have taken it on board from me?

I always laugh and say yes unfortunately during teenage years our voices as parents tend to get tuned out because they’ve heard the same voice their whole lives!

And that’s why role models are so important.

Two months ago my boys read this book and I’ve seen a dramatic consistency in their daily routine and daily exercise has become a religion even though we’ve instilled the same messages

They also talk a lot about this book and the man that inspired them. I read it over 2 nights and couldn’t put it down, a totally inspiring role model for young people and adults. I even noticed his words in my head this morning as I was running up a hill.

A must read about the strength of the human spirit, determination and recovery because that’s the most important thing for our mental health recovery and moving forward 😇

Happy Friday Everyone!

Wow it’s been a busy time at BVF Counseling and this week’s post is about the importance of having supports - supports are our network of people that can help, hold us or problem solve with us during challenging times.
We go to these people because we trust them.

The reality of life is that challenges will always roll our way because they help us grow.
But having supports during these times helps us overcome them much quicker and helps us recognise we are never alone.

I’m a support person to a lot of people and I thoroughly enjoy my role and the work I do helping others 🙏💖

I am also immensely grateful for the support network I have who are there for me when I have a challenge to tackle.

So a big shout out to my support network-
my family & friends as well as Kendra for the magic she weaves in Reike sessions and Trish for tuning my frequency during Biofield tuning sessions 🙏💖

Happy Friday Everyone!

Hope yours is off to a good start and looking forward to winding down for the weekend!

This week’s post is a practical one on the magic of the whiteboard.
We have a total of 6 in our house.

Routine, structure and predictability is what children thrive on growing up and we can assist them and ourselves with this by creating visual reminders.

When the mind gets foggy, out of focus, distracted, consumed or overwhelmed our friendly whiteboard can be our go to place to remind us about our routine around exercise or study, it can become our to do list for the day or Place to remind us of our goals or an inspirational quote.

My children have now created their own boards in their rooms and so I’m delighted they’ve seen the benefits.
The purpose of the visual whiteboard can change over time as we do 😇
Happy white-boarding 😊

Happy Friday Everyone!

My first time working away online from Jurien Bay and enjoying the balance of work and time in nature during my breaks 🙏

This post is about getting into nature and the power of doing it regularly, which was also the theme of my sessions this week. 😇

So many people this week mentioned how they love getting away a few times a year and finding peace and rest in nature 🌿

The question that follows is how do you transfer that into every day life?

It sounds great having a rest a few times a year but without turning what feels good into regular habits we’re not really getting the opportunity to regularly fill our cups, which can lead to burnout 🤯

Ten minutes a day of regular walking, exercise, meditation, yoga, dancing, martial arts etc will go way further 😇❤️

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope you’re keeping well in the winter months of Perth and if you’re as lucky as my parents you’ve flown to with the birds to Europe for the summer 😊

The last few weeks I’ve observed a common theme of people outgrowing their stage/life chapter and searching for something that will bring meaning to their lives.

There are so many layers to us as human beings and when we’re ready to shed a layer that no longer serves us we often experience discomfort/anxiety/restlessness until we work through it and recognise what it is we need in this next phase/stage of life - this can be as simple as exchanging a hobby for another or as big as making a change to another career.

The word that comes to mind is Courage, it takes courage to look inwards and recognise this, it takes courage to recognise our fears around what change may require of us and it takes courage to try new things that might not potentially work out the way we hoped.

However, I have not encountered many people who regret facing their fears and making changes mostly I have encountered people regretting they didn’t honour themselves sooner.

I wish you the courage to face whatever it is inside of you that needs to be met with honesty, patience and courage 🙏❤️

Happy Friday Everyone!

This week the theme of freedom has been coming up in a lot of discussions.

Freedom is one of the ultimate concerns of Psychotherapy alongside isolation, meaning in life and death.
What does it really mean to be free?
A big question and one to ponder on.

Having more control over one’s life and over decision-making is often a common goal for people and we tend to recognise this even more deeply when our control in various areas of life is taken away.

For me freedom at this stage in life is to live the life that I have worked hard to create, be the best version of me and to do what feels right in any given moment with my instincts and rationale guiding me.

I am a great believer in allowing others to do so too - I support clients in helping them find what freedom means to them and then finding ways to live that life whilst taking into account their unique responsibilities in life 😇

Happy Friday Everyone!
Hope you all had a lovely Easter surrounded by those who are special to you ❤️

The last month seems to have flown by at incredible pace and so I’m reflecting on slowing down and taking breaks for self.

The Easter Break was a nice long one but it’s also important to take regular breaks throughout the day to breathe, pause and reflect.

I often work with clients who put a lot of pressure on themselves and throughout my life I’ve also had the tendency to do so.

I explain the importance of pausing, acknowledging our hard-work, connecting with a sense of pride for what we’ve achieved or pausing to think about how we’d like to approach a situation differently if it is no longer working - be that at work or on a personal level.

The break, the pause, the deep breath, the sitting back, taking a moment provide us with greater clarity, focus and allow us to make better decisions - I hope you have many of these moments in the weeks to come 😇❤️

Happy Friday Everyone,

It’s been a busy time at BVF counseling and as always I’m grateful for the amazing people who cross my path and I have the privilege of working with 😇

Todays post is about confidence as in my experience a lot of people enter into counseling wanting to work on this.

I believe that confidence comes from knowing ourselves really well, becoming aware of how our past is still impacting on our current functioning and making choices around changing this - removing obstacles.

When we become solid in who we are, develop a firmer identity, develop skills in various areas of life, respectfully express our opinions and believe that we can step up to what cards life deals us we develop more and more confidence.

Confident people are happier people, which in turn helps relationships

Have a fabulous weekend 😇

Happy Friday All!

This weeks reflection is on personal responsibility for change.

Often people want others around them to change in order for their happiness to increase, however changing others is one of the hardest tasks in the world!

The greatest change we have control over is ourselves, therefore reflecting on how we’re keeping certain situations alive or tolerating other peoples behaviors is a far more powerful mechanism of change.

One of my favourite therapists Yalom advises his clients that even if 99 percent of everything is other people’s fault he’d still like to speak to the 1 percent as that’s where change can happen.

Enjoy your weekend 😎

Happy Friday Everyone!

Hope you’re all keeping well in 2023 😊
To start this year off I’d like to thank you for all the recent referrals and recommendations of my services. It’s been a great start to the year working with some very motivated individuals 😇

This weeks reflection is about anxiety and interpersonal coping styles.
As we’re all different we learn different ways to manage our anxiety in relationships -
some of us withdraw from others, others please to ward of anxiety and others act out to manage the anxiety…and sometimes it’s a combination of all the above.

As a child these styles help us manage our environment growing up, however as an adult it can get in the way of healthy relationships and communication.

Becoming aware of our interpersonal coping style is a healthy step in self-awareness and can lead to better balance in our approaches to managing relationship dynamics.

For more information I suggest the inspirational work of Karen Horney and Edward Teyber 💕
