Will I lose my funding under Support at Home?

This is one of the most common questions families are asking right now — and the short answer is no.

If you currently receive a Home Care Package, your funding will transition with you with this new Support at Home Program.

What you need to know:

- Your existing funding does not disappear.
Clients who were receiving a Home Care Package will move across to Support at Home with protections in place. Your approved level of support continues based on your assessed needs.

-What happens to unspent Home Care Package funds?
Any unspent funds you have accumulated will still be available for you to use during the transition. These funds can continue to support services that help you remain safe and independent at home.

-What about equipment or home modifications?
Under Support at Home, assistive technology and home modifications will be funded differently.

If your existing funds have been fully used and you require items such as:
• mobility equipment
• bathroom modifications
• safety equipment
• home accessibility changes

These may be funded through a separate program called Assistive Technology & Home Modifications (ATHM).
ATHM funding is separate from your regular care budget and requires an application and approval process, which can take some time to assess.

What this means for YOU.
Planning ahead becomes important — especially if equipment or home changes may be needed in the future. Your provider can help guide you through this process so supports continue smoothly.

Aged Care Update: Big changes are happening in Australia’s aged care system, and many families are asking what this means.

Here’s a simple update.

Support at Home has now commenced, bringing together home care programs into one simpler system designed to help older Australians remain independent at home longer.

As part of this change:

🔄 The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) will gradually be phased out over time.

CHSP is designed for older Australians who need basic, entry-level support to stay independent at home.

Services may include:
• Cleaning and household help
• Transport to appointments
• Social support
• Meals or basic assistance

CHSP usually provides small amounts of support and clients may pay a small contribution per service. It’s often the first step into aged care.

The new program aims to:
• Provide more personalized care
• Reduce confusion between different programs
• Offer flexible services based on individual needs
• Support ageing safely at home for longer

Services can include:

❓ What happens if you are currently receiving CHSP services?

There is no immediate change to your care.
Clients will transition gradually, and support will continue during this process.
