What if the secret to reducing food waste and boosting nutrition was as simple as not peeling your veggies? 🥔🥕

Tori, a proud Great Unwaster from Foodbank WA, has a few clever tricks to make life easier. She leaves the skins on potatoes, carrots and sweet potato, and uses the stems of broccoli and cauliflower so more of the veg ends up on the plate, not in the bin. It is good for you too, because the skins are packed with extra fibre, vitamins and minerals. 🤗🤗

At home, Tori also plans her meals for the week and writes a shopping list so she only buys what she needs. It helps her save money, cut food waste and keep mealtimes simple. 💜🌏

Join Tori and The Great Unwaste and let’s turn food waste around together.

Ready to make school holidays fun and tasty? 🤔🙌🏼

Cooking with kids is a great way to build confidence, spark creativity and encourage healthy eating. Plus, they’re more likely to try new foods when they’ve helped make them. 🤗🤗

Start with simple ideas using what you already have:
🍳 Turn cooked veggies into fried rice or omelettes.
🍕 Use leftover roast chicken for wraps or mini pizzas.
🥔 Mix mashed potato into quick potato cakes.
🥗 Transform extra pasta into salads or bakes.

What if the secret to saving time and reducing food waste was as simple as a little ingredient's prep? 🥕🍞

Laura, a proud Great Unwaster, has a few clever tricks to make life easier. Instead of prepping full meals ahead, she chops capsicum and carrots, puts in a container and uses them over the next three days as she cooks. With bread, she makes half the pack into sandwiches and pops the rest in the freezer for later. And if she knows the milk won’t be used in the next few days, she pops it in the freezer so it doesn’t go to waste.

It’s a simple habit that helps reduce waste, save money and make mealtimes stress-free. 💜🌏

Join Laura and The Great Unwaste and let’s turn food waste around.

How do you give the kids the best start in life? 🤔

By empowering parents with the skills to create healthy, budget-friendly meals. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

The nom! Children program is supported through the generosity of Hancock Iron Ore, Hawaiian and Telethon7 Perth and allows us to reach families across regional Western Australia.

Over a twelve month period we have delivered 54 programs involving 478 families, with children under five, from around the State. The Pilbara region was a real highlight, with 80 families engaging in our nutrition education sessions over four week long trips. 🚗

The impact is real:
🥦 93% of parents feel more confident planning and preparing healthy meals.
🥕 69% increased their veggie intake.
🌽 Kids are loving cooking and eating nutritious food.

We can’t wait to bring more nutrition education and cooking fun to families across Western Australia. Stay tuned for what’s next. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

This year, our incredible nom! Schools team delivered 118 hands-on sessions to more than 1,740 students across 38 schools in Perth metro area, the Pilbara, and townships of Bunbury and Geraldton.

It was a year full of learning, tasty recipes and inspired students who took their new skills from the classroom straight to their kitchens at home.

The feedback from teachers, students and parent helpers has been overwhelmingly positive. We’re so proud to see the impact of this program and can’t wait to bring nom! Schools to even more classrooms in 2026.

💜 Huge thank you to PLS and Mineral Resources for supporting this program and enabling us to empower students across WA.

What does it take to make nutrition education accessible in regional areas? And how can we empower both adults and young people to make healthier choices? 🤔🤔

Last month, we’re proud to share the impact of our nom! nutrition education sessions across the Wheatbelt, made possible through the generous support of Arc Infrastructure. Their commitment ensures that vital knowledge reaches communities that need it most. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏼

Across all sessions in Moora and Lancelin, we engaged 21 participants, sparking conversations about food, health and confidence in making better choices.

With Arc Infrastructure’s support, we’re not just teaching nutrition, we’re helping build healthier futures for regional communities. 💜

Last month, our Public Health Nutritionists travelled to Hedland, Karratha and Roebourne to deliver nom! Children nutrition education and cooking programs to parents of children 0-5 years. 🤗🤗

It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen relationships with community members and organisations that share a similar passion for food and community wellbeing. It was great to see familiar faces at Hedland Well Women's Centre, Karratha Family Centre, Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Ltd and Bloodwood Tree, and cook tasty, affordable dishes using the 5 core food groups.

It was a privilege to support families in creating nutritious meals for their families, share strategies for harmonious mealtimes and discuss how to pack a balanced lunchbox. It was a wonderful week connecting and empowering people through food. 🌽🥕🥦
